This is tonight! Much excite!
The Tiffin Drive-In Theater is about to bring a host of homegrown horrors to its giant screen. On Saturday, September 23, it gives us great goosebumpy pleasure to present to you the very first Tiffin Drive-In Independent Horror Film Fest!
This one-night festival will shine a spooky spotlight on the talents of a collection of Ohio filmmakers, whose original films will take you on an entertaining journey through the many facets of the horror film genre -- from frightening, to funny, to musical.
The festival will feature 12 unique short films by filmmakers from all over Ohio, with titles like Teeth, Loose Ends, MET(EYE)MORPHOSIS, Toetag, and Anywhere But Here. The centerpiece of the evening will be the World Drive-In Premiere(!) of Tiffin native Hope Madden's first feature length film, Obstacle Co**se.
"My husband and I have been to a number of those Tough Mudder type extreme obstacle course events," Madden said. "I'm already personally terrified of the woods. Then combine that with the insane nature of these obstacles. Then I thought, what if the course or some of your competitors were trying to kill you? So I realized I had a story! And that's what became Obstacle Co**se."
Madden wrote the screenplay and directed the film with a women-led crew, and a cast of talented indie actors. The horror-comedy film has gained a following through enthusiastic screenings at the Nightmare Film Festival, and other festival screenings around the U.S.
In addition to filmmaking, Madden's immersive interest in film includes writing as a film critic for the Columbus Underground, and hosting monthly film nights at the Gateway Film Center complex near Ohio State University.
Madden will be on-hand at the festival to meet you and talk about her film and any other filmmaking topics of interest. A number of the other filmmakers will be in attendance as well. Stay tuned for some interesting video clips of our interview with Madden in the coming days.
The gate opens for the event at 6:30 p.m. Local Tiffin band Tinfoil, whose song Monroe Mayhem is featured in Obstacle Co**se, will perform live under the canopy of our theater's Moonlite Diner before the show begins. The collection of 12 short films will be screened first, followed by a brief intermission. Then Madden's Obstacle Co**se will have its World Drive-In Premiere screening!
The Tiffin Drive-In Independent Horror Film Fest is an example of our effort to bring unique events and programming to the theater, affirming its place as an entertainment centerpiece of the community. We love showcasing local talent and bringing together groups of fans to enjoy a special night at the drive-in. This festival of locally produced horror films that are so unique, original, entertaining, scary, and funny, is something that is just tailor-made for our drive-in.
