Astera Fresh Cut Blooms is a miniature “flower farm” in Topeka, Kansas. Each and every flower is lovingly grown from seed, corm, bulb or tuber right here on only 400 square feet in my backyard! I grow premium, unique flowers and varieties that you can’t find at the typical supermarket.

January has been quite the start to 2025, huh? We’ve had our fair share of sledding, winter wonderland walks, and shoveling.

While the tulips are snuggled in tight under the blanket of snow and awaiting the warmth of spring, I have been waking up the first flowers of the 2025 season indoors.

I’ll admit, ranunculus corms are pretty funky looking, but their beautiful, pillowy blooms will make their appearance in late spring!

Hi flower friends! 👋🏻 I’m Melea and I grow cut flowers in Topeka, Kansas! I’m a stay-at-home-mom by day and suburban backyard flower “farmer” by nap time.

In 2023, my husband Kale and I transformed part of our suburban backyard into rows of flower beds and launched Astera Fresh Cut Blooms. I offer freshly harvested specialty flowers to our local community from April to October.

You can usually find me in the garden with the little one, instead of doing the laundry and dishes. This little plot of land is my happy place and I hope you’ll love it too! If you love pretty flowers, furry friends, and all things nature, you’ve come to the right place. Thanks for being here! 🌸

Every Thanksgiving, my family writes down on a card what they are thankful for. To be honest, some years I found it to be a chore and just another thing to do to prepare for the holiday. But this year, I found myself filling out that card readily and with a grateful heart. God has graciously blessed my family, despite many hardships and heartache.
