Week 1 subscription bouquets did not disappoint! A few tips to make your tulips last longer:

• Change the water in the vase daily.
• Trim the stems 1/2ā€ every few days.
• Keep the flowers in a cool location out of direct sunlight.
• Tulips are top heavy so give them a tall, supportive vase… Or admire their artistic nature that makes them unique!

Thank you, friend, for the beautiful photo in your lovely home.

Choosing to spend your money at a local business is no small act. Every time I see a new order come in, I squeal and do a happy dance! I think we all know those big supermarket stores don’t feel that way. Just know that when you like, comment, share, or purchase flowers, you’re making my day! As a stay-at-home mom, I treasure the unique opportunity to spend my days growing beautiful flowers for you, all while being present with my little one. It’s a really special feeling to share this dream with you. Thank you for choosing to support small!

Late spring flowers. šŸ˜ There is nothing quite like them! I’ve been a busy bee over here planting seedlings and mulching. But none of it would be possible without my better half who does most of the heavy lifting for me behind the scenes with a cheerful heart. šŸ¤ And in-laws who lovingly dote on the little one while we borrow their truck.

I love everything about tulips. The light citrus scent, the squeak of the foliage, the elegant and understated simplicity. They can hold their own with a single stem or they can make a statement in a bunch. There’s a reason they’ve been my favorite flowers for many years now, but last year (my inaugural tulip season) brought a whole new level to my obsession! They are so dreamy.

2022: The year that sparked my interest in growing cut flowers. On a whim, I asked my husband Kale to build me a few raise bed boxes so I could try my hand at growing some ā€œeasyā€ flowers. I killed them all except the zinnias and sunflowers. šŸ˜‚

Swipe to photos #4 and #5 to see where it all started! I was elated to bring a new bundle of flowers to the office each week and share the beauty with my coworkers!

Three years, oodles of research, some successes, more learning opportunities, and way too many buckets of sweat later, it’s so fun to look back on this flower journey. Thank you for being here! Your support and encouragement means more than you know.

ICYMI: Here’s a peek into the tulip planting process from November! Fresh compost, fertilizer, bulbs, lots of water, more compost, mulch, and plenty of patience while waiting for spring to arrive. They’re going to be SO worth the wait!

Fun fact: When growing tulips as cut flowers, I plant the bulbs like eggs in a carton, and then pull the whole tulip up… bulb and all! Unfortunately, this means I can’t reuse the bulbs next year. But it also means that you get the biggest and most beautiful blooms possible!

The seed starting marathon has begun! Well, it actually started almost two months ago… The first tiny little lisianthus seeds I planted in early January take six months to bloom so we won’t see these until July! Talk about high maintenance. šŸ˜† But the snapdragons and ranunculus are well on their way to bloom in late spring. Who’s ready?!
