We provide custom florals, floral instruction, flower experiences and tours of the LA Flower District. Flower Duet is a full-service floral design company created and run by two sisters based in Los Angeles, California. Since 1999 when they founded Flower Duet out of small design studios to 2010 when they opened up in a warehouse location in Torrance, partners Kit Coleman Wertz & Casey Coleman Sch

wartz had a mission to not only create beautiful bouquets and floral designs for their clients, but to also "take the mystery out of floral arranging" for students of all ages from little kids to older floral enthusiasts. Kit and Casey have been long-time instructors for the venerable Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California, American Grown Flowers Field to Vase Dinner Designers, Slow Flowers Summit Speakers and frequent guest speakers for many groups. They continue to offer floral design instruction for all audiences with over 200 courses in their premium online school as well as in-person instruction at their studio and in private settings with a focus on where to purchase locally grown flowers and design sustainably.

Jimmy Carter was sworn into office a few months after we moved from New York to the Washington, D.C. suburbs. Following the swearing-in ceremony, Carter became the first president to walk from the Capitol to the White House in the post-ceremony parade.

Casey made friends quickly in our new hometown and attended the inauguration parade with one of those new friends.

When President Carter and his wife got out of their limos and walked the parade route, Casey and her friend knelt down in order to get a glimpse of the president and first lady from beneath other parade watcher's legs. Carter spotted Casey and her friend and gave them a wave! She has never forgotten that moment.

Our dad volunteered as a home construction project manager for Habitat for Humanity (among other duties for the group in Northern Virginia) for over a decade after he retired from the airline industry. He was able to tell President Carter at a book signing how grateful he was for all the support the Carters had given to this fabulous organization to help house people.

Mr. Carter was a great man with a great heart. We will always admire him for his lifetime achievements and how he cared for and helped his fellow humans.

May he rest in peace.

We had a great day of two super full classes last Saturday at the Huntington Library in the Garden Court where we taught everyone to make a winter solstice floral design because after all it was the first day of winter on Saturday!

Students learned how to incorporate pine cones with two types of evergreens, white roses, berries and chrysanthemums in a timeless classic winter centerpiece that they could then go home and add any sort of accent they wanted for their own celebrations.

Happy holidays to everyone happy Winter.... the days are getting longer now..... lots to celebrate and we hope to see you at the Huntington when we return in January. See Link in bio.

We had some swagger at our "Holiday Door Swag" classes over the weekend. In two sold-out classes at on Saturday in the Ahmanson classroom, students learn ed about the history of evergreens in the house during the holidays, how swags are made with five different types of evergreens, how to attach pinecones, how to make a florist bow and finally how to attach a floral cage to adorn the swag with a fresh floral display.

We'll be back at The Huntington for two more classes this Saturday for a Winter Solstice-themed showcase floral design class in the Garden Court. It is sold out, but we have classes next year starting in January with all new themes.

Thanks to all our high school volunteers!

Thanks to our great vendors! Everyone made their bows out of beautiful festive ribbon from

We had a fabulous and full Protea wreath class last Saturday at our studio in Torrance. We were soooooo happy to feature mixed evergreen wreaths from and fresh Protea and Leucadendron from !!!!

I had the pleasure of visiting the farm in Fallbrook and meeting up again with the fabulous operation. It was great visiting with Mel Resendiz (the man himself) and Diana Roy, whom I've interviewed many times for articles in The Bloomin' News. I brought back a generously huge and lovely selection of protea for the class including 'Pink Ice'.

Students learned how to incorporate Leucadendron 'Goldstrike' and 'Safari Sunset', Grevillea 'Ivanhoe' and mixed Protea into a wreath that's already complete, as well as how to make a wreath from scratch from a demo that I held during class.

We are so happy to be helping out with the tour of the LA Flower District for their upcoming Protea Growers Association Conference next spring.

Check out website as they have events throughout the year and they do feature The Protea Shop, too!

I know I will be back to the farm in the coming seasons to feature more locally grown Protea for future classes at Flower Duet and

We want to wish a personal Happy Veterans Day to our Pop, who served as a Navy pilot during Vietnam and commanded squadrons in the Navy during the Cold War.

Our parents started our family journey together while our dad was stationed in Japan for the U.S. Navy. Our brother was born in Japan and then Casey was born at the Naval Air Station at Coronado (a true native Californian). Kit was born when Pop was stationed in the US Naval Reserves in New York.

We learned a lot from our Pop and through being a military family such as... How to be on time (be early), How to recon (know where you are going before you go...especially for a job interview), and How to always have a Plan A, Plan B and Plan C. We learned how to respect our teachers, our coaches, and our elders and how to thank the people who have served our country in the fight for freedom and democracy.

Mom and Pop are still thriving today.

Thanks, Pop, for your military service and your diplomacy.

Thanks to Mom, a wonderful, strong and supportive Navy wife who kept us safe and happy while Dad was away serving our country.

Thank you to all the United States Veterans today!

About The Sisters

SISTERS Casey and Kit Coleman co-founded Flower Duet in Los Angeles almost 20 years ago as a side-hustle at the insistence of their girlfriends who thought that what they did was fun and cool.

What Kit and Casey did in 1999 was teach their friends how to arrange flowers in a relaxed party atmosphere. Those girlfriends started to get married and asked the Coleman sisters to make their wedding flowers so Flower Duet was born.

Fast forward to 2019 and the Coleman sisters still teach how to arrange flowers in a relaxed party atmosphere at their 4,500 square foot design studio in the South Bay of Los Angeles - AND - they make beautiful flower designs for all of life’s celebrations including weddings and parties - AND they do a lot of other super cool things with flowers.

In addition to their expanding floral design studio business in Torrance, Kit & Casey are actively involved in volunteerism in their local community and through charitable donations to their local public school districts of Redondo Beach, Torrance, Los Angeles and the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
