This year, the flower farm has taught me that nature is always evolving, and so must I. It took this year to transition into my heart’s calling, and I can’t wait to share it with you soon! 💚

We’ve been a little quiet lately and with good reason. Gather Flower Farm is evolving into something a little closer to my passions and my heart, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

There are so many lessons learned the first year you farm flowers, no matter how long you’ve grown them in a personal garden. I have been so lucky to experience the ups and downs which has allowed me to tune into what’s working and what’s not and maybe more importantly, what I am inspired to do more of next year and what I’ll leave behind. (Hint: there will be many more roses!)

Prue has been hard at work planning for next year with me and insisted I include her photo. 😻

More news to come!

Did you know you can make your own rose water? 🌹 I love rose water as a facial toner and usually add a little glycerin and squalane in there so that it’s extra hydrating. Here’s how to make your own:

✨Fill a mason jar or glass container with rose petals. Add just enough boiling water to immerse the petals. Cover the jar or container, leave her on the countertop to cool, and give her a good shake every now and then. After 24 hours, you’ve got rose water!

This method will give you a lightly fragranced rose water. If you want a stronger potion, simply add more petals and less water.

It’s important to note that when making products for your skin, you should know where your roses are coming from.

✅ Garden roses grown with organic and/or light spray methods
❌ Conventionally grown roses heavily sprayed and sometimes stem-dipped in pesticides

We’re excited to add garden roses to our 2025 growing year, so you may find farm-sourced rose waters and hydrosols as one of our offerings. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a skincare ju**ie, and knowing where my products come from is incredibly important. It’s simply one more way to live in right relationship with the earth. 🌎

Also, a hawk tried to take my head today after I got this shot, so there’s that. 🤣

I love gomphrena. It’s never been a flower that I gravitate to but it is flourishing in droves this month and brings such a beautiful color to the farm. Even better, it’s incredible as a dried flower too! 💜

I didn’t think about this until I became a flower farmer, but days away from the farm are few and far between. I have to be selective because things are always changing and just a few days away from the farm can make or break a harvest. This Saturday, however, I took a little respite to see and at in Asheville. Let me tell you, it was so worth it!

I laughed, I danced, I cried, and most of all, I felt pure joy. It was a cathartic experience like none other, and the next day I got right back to it, harvesting zinnias for bouquets.

Life is beautiful. Even if you love the work that you do (and especially if you don’t), it’s important to take time away for yourself.

How do you find respite? Comment below! 👇🏻

As a mortician and licensed embalmer, nothing gets me more excited than the intersection of art and science. Now that I’m farming full-time, I find that intersection in the creation of inputs like fertilizer and teas. Today I’m making a “weed tea” or, more accurately, JADAM Liquid Fertilizer. This is my first try so we’ll see how it goes, but it’s an exciting thought to take what is thriving in this micro environment and turning it into a solution that feeds the plants and soil. Although we already use organic and sustainable practices on the farm, this is one step closer to a more intimate form of sustainability.

🌿 Phase 2 of the flower farm is currently covered in ivy which means lots of work this fall. But look at what’s underneath…
🍂 Leaf mold! This layer of soil is teaming with good microbes that can be multiplied and later applied as a soil drench to our existing flowers. Regenerative farming is fascinating (and good for the earth)!

What have you been up to this month? 🫶🏻

Gathering seeds 💕 My neighbors have bachelors button planted near me, and two seedlings made their way to my property. I’ve been watching them bloom and turn to seed, and nothing makes me more happy than breaking open a seed pod and seeing the promise of new plant life. 🌱

The truth is, I am addicted to seeds. Sometimes I over order or gather more than I can plant, and I add the overage to the shop. I just restocked the shop with zinnias, sunflowers, and cosmos, to name a few. Perhaps I’ll collect enough bachelors buttons to share those soon too ☺️

I’ve been dreaming of indigo dyed silk ribbons, creamy white pumpkins, and blue boy dahlias for my son’s wedding. I couldn’t find blue boy tubers anywhere, then randomly found one at a big box store. Crossing my fingers that it blooms beautifully.

The universe is a funny thing. I found these forgotten photos on my DSLR camera this evening. They were taken in 2021 on the Swamp Rabbit Trail near . This little plot of land was made gorgeous by and I remember thinking, I want to grow those one day. These flowers, unknown to me at the time, were beautiful and magical. As I write this today, I have these same flowers growing on the farm and didn’t even realize it. It’s true, things will always come full circle. ✨
