My daughter, Nina, made some “rainy day bouquets” this morning. They’re in the garden shed at the mouth of the driveway - $20.00 each.

I'm never ready for July at Old Mission Flowers but it never waits! The garden is more lush than it's ever been; the cool damp spring was perfect for many of the perennials, especially the roses. The annuals had a slow start because they thrive with a little more warmth but finally, the snapdragons that were 1" babies in May are 18" tall and starting to bloom. The showstoppers now are the lilies and many are fragrant. (If you want to calm the scent and minimize risk of pollen stains, just cut the anthers off.). Pictures taken July 3, 2025.

This is a picture that my friend, Nancy, sent of one of her arrangements from flowers picked at Old Mission Flowers yesterday. I think it looks like a painting!

The late peony varieties are starting to open; they are so ephemeral when it’s hot. All of summer goes too fast! The cooler at Old Mission Flowers was restocked this afternoon and you are welcome to use them to fill out a bouquet.

The storm this morning brought 1 1/2” of hard rain and a little more wind than needed so I deadheaded and Lew staked more peonies that are all budded up this morning. There are loads of flowers to pick and the garden is fresh after the shower. Pictures taken 6/22/25. Come pick a bouquet- everything you need is in the garden shed.

One would think the flowers would be toast after two nights in the forties last week and now, eighty degrees predicted for 10 days and not a drop of rain, but... the garden is still blooming. I took these pictures 9/13/24.

There are three flowers in the garden that can be dried easily and used for crafting: statice, strawflowers and celosia (the bright colored brainy looking flowers). It's easy, just hang them upside down in small bunches and keep in a cool, dark place for a few weeks. There are u-tubes that explain how to wire the strawflowers while they're fresh.

Happy Labor Day! This was a small sunflower with a very short stem that I floated in a bowl on Wednesday and trimmed the stem once. I took the second photo this morning (Monday), five days later. It’s been great fun watching it open.

The garden will be open this year through September 22nd.
