Mid-day full sun is the best time for your family photo walk? I gotchu. Naps are tricky and a lot of kids need to be in bed well before summer golden hour. That doesn’t mean you can’t have beautiful memories of your family in this stage!
Here’s some tips to make a session work with unideal full sun:
1. Get in a candid mood. Candids are the best way to make harsh sun photos look like art. Wear comfy shoes (peep Emily’s white tennies) and get ready to play.
2. Avoid white and saturated colors. White is going to come out overexposed and colors become 3x as saturated when photographed in the sun. We want the focus to be on you and not your outfits so wear medium tone neutrals.
3. Let’s work together to pick a location with some shade. If we want a few shots smiling at the camera we’re going to need shade somewhere and with a little planning you can find shade anytime of day!
Light is everything in photography and even “bad” light can be beautiful with the right perspective and planning! ☀️
Did not mind stealing these sweeties from @cheleanamariephotos for a lifestyle newborn session. I loved working with you guys but you are forever in good hands with Chel 🫶🏼❤️
I’m so excited for these!! I need to make new paper stars for the wall and pull additional Christmas decor out of the basement but I’m really happy with my setup this year 🎄

These days I will remember 🥹
My photo albums are full of candids and cell phone pics but the ones that really make me pause are the professional images that myself or my good photographer friend @cheleanamariephotos took. I’m not absolutely sure what it is but I think it’s two things: 1. The intentionality of setting aside time to document your family in a beautiful memorable setting. During that session you’re completely focused on interacting with your family, being with them, and making them laugh and smile.
2. Those memories have been captured artistically, from the eye of a professional photographer, who then curates them to look like the warm fuzzy feelings felt during your session.
Why do you get professional photos done? What’s your why? I’d love to hear!
Extended family sessions have really stolen my heart lately 🥹
How fast does the newborn phase go by?
Fast. Real fast people.
If you ask my 6 year old what that means he’d say as fast as a thousand cheetahs.
I don’t think I can make that any more clear 😂
These images are precious now but every year that goes by they will appreciate exponentially. I’m not a finance girl but that’s like a buttload of sentimental value.
If it’s not me or another friendly local photographer, have grandma take a few family pics, make the friends who didn’t bring you a meal do it.
I know you’re tired and the toddler is crazy and it seems like a lot of work but I have never been more confident in saying the words “it will be worth it.”
The worst that can happen is they turn out “bad” (that means the baby won’t stop crying and your toddler pooped their pants) but even if that happens, you still captured the memories and that matters.
I don’t tell my clients enough how much I admire the work THEY put into a newborn session. That sh*t ain’t easy and it’s flippin brave, every mom you see in a newborn session, that’s the face of a woman who will cannot be stopped. Especially the ones with toddlers, I mean do not cross them.
And like I always say, if you missed that newborn phase, whatever phase, it is NEVER too late to start 🫶🏼
Congratulations Van Fleet Family on your newest addition Baby Hayes 🤍
This one was a lot of fun! Jess & Erik told me they wanted to capture their family in all its real craziness. It was so windy, cold, and two labs worth of pulling and twisting and hyperactivity - but we persevered and I really think we achieved the vision.
Rizzo, Mack (the two labs) and my 6 year old have me wanting be a dog family again 🥹
Let’s try again! Sneak peek for the DuFrane Family 🫶🏼
The minute I heard this song I knew exactly which session I had to pair it with. I had the privilege of attending their wedding this past September and now we’re all family 🫶🏼
