Please do not be alarmed at an increased police presence at BNHS on Monday, June 23 through Thursday, June 26. Several agencies will be conducting active shooter training at the school.

Beginning Monday June 23rd, the Trophy Club Police Department will host four days of training at Byron Nelson High School (BNHS). Other participating agencies include Argyle, Keller, Northlake, Roanoke and Southlake. The training, provided by Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) is designed to teach officers the proper operations and tactics when responding to an active shooter situation.

Taught by fellow law enforcement officers that have experienced an active shooter situation during their career, the training consists of both classroom and practical exercises. Students not only have the opportunity to “play police” during the exercises, they also play “victims” to get a sense of what it is like for civilians caught in active shooter situations. This training is necessary and vital should the area ever experience an active shooter situation.
