Our friend Donovan Durband was a huge part of revitalizing Downtown, helped create 2nd Saturdays Downtown Tucson and was a great supporter of The Screening Room and the Arizona International Film Festival.
Please take a few minutes and email your support of this lovely tribute.

Reviving the Underpass, Remembering Donovan
The City of Tucson is considering renaming the Historic Sixth Avenue Underpass to honor the late Donovan Durband, who played a key role in revitalizing Downtown Tucson as the former Tucson Downtown Alliance Director, Ward 6 Council Aide, and Park Tucson Administrator.
Public feedback is being sought on renaming the underpass to
"The Donovan Durband Sixth Avenue Underpass."
The proposal includes repainting the underpass and
adding 24 panels featuring vintage Tucson postcards from Durband’s collection.
Artist Stephen Farley, known for the Broadway Underpass murals, will lead the project.

2nd Saturdays Downtown - May 11, 2024
9:00-10:00 - Las Azaleas
Olivares says the idea for the group was inspired by her own lack of knowledge about just how influential women have been in composing iconic pieces of music like the popular Mexican bolero "Besame Mucho." Written in 1941 by Consuelo Velázquez, it's a song that has been translated into several languages, and performed over the last several decades by everyone from The Beatles to Andrea Bocelli.

"I think the entire world knows that song and I didn't realize it was composed by a woman in Mexico, I had no idea," Olivares says. "As a mariachi musician ... I knew all these male interpreters and composers of music, but there were few women that really reached such a high status where they were known worldwide, so that really opened my eyes when I started realizing that lot of my favorite pieces were composed by women."

2nd Saturdays Downtown Tucson, May 11, 2024
7:30-8:30 - Scott Pryor
Scott Pryor, a standout voice in the American indie folk scene, brings to life a unique blend of Americana with his powerful narrative songwriting and intricate guitar work. Drawing inspiration from the forests, rivers, and lakes of his native North Carolina and Virginia, the urban jungle of Philadelphia, and now his home in the desert southwest, Pryor’s music invites listeners into a world where timeless themes of love, faith, and struggle resonate in every note.
