Today, we celebrate the official THE GAP BAND DAY and the 50th anniversary of the vinyl record Magician’s Holiday, recorded at The Church Studio. Family, friends, original band members, and fans gathered while Mayoral candidates Monroe Nichols and Karen Keith read the city and state proclamations making November 2nd forever THE GAP BAND DAY!

It was a day to honor the music and legacy of this special group and the impact of The Gap Band on our city’s musical heritage, inspiring musicians for generations to come.

Our Story

The church was built in 1915 and started as Grace M.E. Church. It was converted to a world-class recording studio in 1972 by Grammy-Award winning musician, singer, songwriter, and producer Leon Russell. Once the historic renovation is complete, the beautiful structure will once again become a recording studio, community space and home to the Church Studio Archive. Today, The Church Studio is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Landmark.

The Church Studio Music Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, supports the understanding, appreciation, and advancement of music.
