It’s David Bowie’s Day. We’re honored to have a pair of vintage U67 Neumann microphones we purchased in Berlin that once belonged to Bowie, a piece of his spirit in the Studio. Today, we remember him on what would have been his 78th birthday. 🌟🎂
It’s cold outside, but this rare moment of Leon Russell, frozen in time, is sure to warm your heart. 🎶❄️ What do you think he is saying/singing?

Today would have been Steve Ripley's 75th Birthday. He is so very missed. His legacy continues to inspire us. His family recently visited our new Tractor’s exhibit. From studio owner, to music mastermind, hope to see you soon.

We are devastated to share the news that our dear friend Don Nix “Memphis Man”, passed away last night. Don was the first artist to sign to Shelter Records with Leon Russell and Denny Cordell. He spent hours of time with us sharing stories about Concert for Bangladesh, George Harrison, Elton John, Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, Rita Coolidge, Eric Clapton, Jesse Ed Davis and all of the Tulsa boys. He was so close with… Markham, Tripplehorn, Karstein, Keltner and Cale. Condolences to his boys, his sister Kitty and all his friends and family. He’ll forever be a part of our legacy.

From Jimmy Webb:
Today - Dec 28th - in 1968, Glen Campbell's single, "Wichita Lineman", written by Jimmy Webb, reached #1 on the Billboard Country chart where it stayed for 2 weeks. It reached #3 on Billboard Hot 100 (pop chart) and stayed on the chart for 15 weeks. It also topped the Adult Contemporary chart for 6 weeks and topped the RPM national and country singles charts in Canada.
It was the 2nd single from the album of the same name. The album reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 (Album) chart and remained there for 5 weeks. There were so many great contributions to the song, including Carol Kaye's descending six-note intro and Glen himself added a melodic interlude (with Carol Kaye's tremolo-infused Dano bass) to the as yet unfinished song to fill in the spots Jimmy had not completed for a third verse and a bridge. Orchestral arrangements were by producer Al DeLory with high-pitched, ethereal violins to emulate the sonic vibrations commonly induced by wind blowing across small wires. Jimmy then went in and overdubbed evocative, reverberating electronic notes and open chords heard in the intro and fadeout played on his Gulbransen electric organ.

The church was built in 1915 and started as Grace M.E. Church. It was converted to a world-class recording studio in 1972 by Grammy-Award winning musician, singer, songwriter, and producer Leon Russell. Once the historic renovation is complete, the beautiful structure will once again become a recording studio, community space and home to the Church Studio Archive. Today, The Church Studio is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Landmark.
