We are always so busy we keep forgetting to do some posts about the completed restoration work at Stella Campbell’s house. It’s now available for holiday rental.
Because we already have too much business at the Air BnB Ranch house at Elmwood, we thought to just keep this one for informal inquiries.
Thanks to Bob for these lovely images. He is to photos what we are to restorations. Let's also recognize some great local talent who worked on this restoration. Note that saving old places takes a different approach to construction. Contributions to this project came from: Robert Huffman and his talented team. John Long and his team restored the outside walls and developed the hand-formed standing seam roof, Tri-County Appliances installed the efficient HVAC system and appliances, Leslie Smith reglazed the old windows, Stephanie Long did the painting and drywall prep

October 25th. Getting ready for a wedding on this beautiful Fall Saturday. As always Greenbrier Cut Flowers have hit a grand slam home run. Elmwood’s antique greenhouse. Progress! We reached a major milestone today with the installation of the restored upper vent windows and their connection to the cast iron gear actuators. Now these can be cranked up and down using a hand wheel. Great work by Caleb, Chuck, and Leslie. Onward. Upward.

Those who know us know that we have been planning and working towards restoring an antique greenhouse. After ten years, we are getting close. This is a circa 1919 Hitchings greenhouse that is made out of cast iron, cypress and glass. With the curved eaves and bolted connections you can see how complicated it is. We found most of it from Matt Scott who owns Monarch Greenhouses. See his page for fascinating new and restoration greenhouse projects. We had to have a number of cast iron parts modeled and re -cast in Mississippi Other parts were expertly fabricated out of modern structural steel by Greg Hubbard. Heart cypress for repair and replacement of complicated wooden cladding including a new gable end was sourced by, and are being expertly crafted by Chuck Smith, and his wife, Leslie is glazing the huge vent windows. Follow us now as we work on the final assembly which will result in a beautiful antique building for Anita to winter over our plants abd to increase our stock of tropical plants and trees.
