The morning after…. A quiet Sunday. Last night there was a terrific 80th birthday celebration for Joe Lusk replete with wonderful music by Scott Pierick and delicious catering by Angela Boyles. We cannot recall a better organized Elmwood event. Congrats to Ana Lusk for pulling off a masterpiece. Robert and Suzanne Huffman’s ‘a’ looks good here don’t you agree? Robert’s Son Hayden gave him a ride home when the headlights decided to go on the blink. Want an event? Think Elmwood.

We have been hearing nice comments about the new fence up atop this beautiful hill where the Elmwood cemetery is located. It can be seen from the highway See where action was taken to clear the old fence line of dead trees and the remaining healthy trees provide shade for the adjacent cattle. Here are some images taken Sunday morning May 25th. With this strong new fence, efforts to study, repair, and preserve this precious memorial may commence.

The end of May in Monroe County is a happy time. Trees, flowers, lawns, look lush and the greens are brightest now. Birds are singing everywhere School is out. Summer is just around the corner. But it’s important to take a few moments on this Memorial Day weekend to remember those Americans of all races, classes, and both sexes, who died in defense of our system of freedom here in the United States of America. Let us take a little time to remember their ultimate sacrifice.
