After a few years, the antique greenhouse project is complete. On Monday we’ll begin adding a heating system to keep it warm through the winter. Stay tuned for a more detailed post showing details and shout outs to some of the very talented folks who participated. It’s been a complicated but altogether most enjoyable journey.

July 4, 2026: When Hugh Caperton and Jane (Erskine) settled here circa 1810 the nation was merely 35 years old and the region only recently deemed safe for development by settlers. Hugh’s father, Adam Caperton had been killed in a battle with Indians in what later became Kentucky when Hugh was 2 years of age. When this current Jeffersonian house was built, the nation was 60 years old.
Here we are today at 250 years as a nation, experimenting with our democratic republic, and always looking ahead. Let us anticipate another 250 years as an enlightened experiment, ever ready to learn from our mistakes and taking encouragement from our successes.

July 3, 2026. It’s a hot humid old fashioned summer day after morning steamy fog we enjoyed at dawn has all but evaporated. The scent of roses and magnolias pervade in the still moist air. It’s a whirling ceiling fan on the porch kind of day.
