And for the past 25 years, David “Tubo” Owens has been at the heart of that tradition: a BBQ guru, a dedicated committee member, and a friend whose passion and personality helped shape this festival into what it is today.
Tubo isn’t just a BBQ guru — he’s a staple of this event, a behind-the-scenes legend, and the kind of person whose laugh, heart, and smoked perfection have brought joy to thousands over the years.
This year, health challenges kept him from joining us in the way he always has. But his presence? It was still everywhere. In the stories we told. In the love we felt. And in every spark that lit a flame.
So, in a moment that meant everything to us — we surprised Tubo with a special gift: an engraved axe, honoring his 25 years of dedication, heart, and unforgettable flavor.
