Nine months with momma ❤️
Early morning coffee talks, cream of rice matching breakfasts, afternoon chocolate candy porch swing brain breaks, family fudge making adventures, watercoloring with Savanna, laughing with Gian Riley and Brent, and dreaming with me about lush gardens, colorful flower beds, what I’ve learned about theatre photography and my small business.
These nine months have been irreplaceable. You are so loved, momma.
Q: What do you get when you combine macramé, clay, plants, a love of creating?
A: A collaborative workshop by and
Over the course of four 2-hour sessions, you’ll learn how to hand-build a ceramic plant pot and then create a macramé hanger for your plant.
In the first two sessions, you will learn how to roll, texture, cut and assemble clay slabs into complete pots. In the third session, you will begin to think about the design of your macramé hanger and decorate your finished pot with glaze. In the fourth and final session, held in the beautiful upstairs classroom at Burrow & Vine on East Beverley Street, you will create the macramé hanger that will hold your completed pot.

This has become one of my favorite sneaky portraits of momma. We made these diamond art crafts when she first moved in. I just love the messiness of my kitchen counter as we’re listening to music, crafting together.
I encourage you to pick up your camera (whatever you have) and capture some of your messy moments.

Golly day, I was blown away on Wednesday night photographing our Invited Dress Rehearsal. This was my first time seeing any Mackers performance and I can’t imagine seeing it with another cast on another stage. Just brilliant.
I’ll share tons of performance images and BTS during the run, but for now enjoy two photos of our set and the incredible collaboration between our costume and props departments with Jose’s directorial vision. It’s so good.

Attendees will make and decorate clay coil pots inspired by indigenous artists, and then learn how to use them to plant and care for a plant of their own. I don’t photograph every performance, but when our entire understudy team is called to the stage to perform, I lept at the opportunity to capture their performance.
Telling stories with my camera is what I do at ASC. And, this particular story was one I wanted told. We’ve regrettably had to cancel multiple shows due to illness in the last year and as disappointing as it is to our patrons, it really is quite devastating to our cast and creative teams. We literally do everything possible to get on that stage...
..and these three young actors did just that. In different costumes, without being on book (a script in their hand), without calling out Prithee (a staff member waits in the wing to call out the beginning of a missed line), and without anything but full energy and comedic timing.
I don’t know this show well because I don’t know all of Shakespeare’s plays, but what I do know is that our stage management, costume team, props team, and acting fellows worked their fannies off to make sure the show went on. Bravo, friends, bravo!

On our recent trip to Palm Springs, I was fascinated by a cactus garden near our room. If you know me, you know I touched more than one, and no, I don’t recommend doing that.
I do, however, recommend chasing something you find fascinating. It’s good for the soul.

Sometimes you just gotta make a pie with your momma.
Lifestyle newborn sessions are almost entirely candid and brimming over with family snuggles. This big brother and sister couldn’t wait for their baby brother to be born. I love that they also were kind enough to make time to serenade me in between the snuggling.
Did I love A Midsummer Night’s Dream because of Shakespeare’s clever storylines, cat fights, juicy purple flowers, fairies, love potions, a nonsensical play on wedding day or that amazing dress designed and painted specifically for Titania?
A smidge of them all, I guess. But mostly, it was this cast of fun and spirited actors bringing the story alive in their own way. Without a director and in rep with two other plays, these talented mortals are far from foolish. They simply make magic on our stage night after night.

Our adventure last week to POUR by in Lexington did not disappoint!
Choosing our scents, drinking milkshakes, and making soy candles together was the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon in one of my favorite spots in all of Virginia. As if this cozy little town isn’t adorable enough, Pour certainly brings an added layer of (girly) charm.

A night filled with music, laughter, and community. My favorite people jammed out to our favorite songs on our stage, raising money to repair our instruments and keep the music alive at the Blackfriars.

Joy comes in the morning.
Seventy-three years ago, joy was hard to find in Farmville, Virginia when 16 year old Barbara Johns led a student strike in response to poor school conditions and school segregation. That peaceful protest was a catalyst that eventually led to the Brown v. Board of Education ruling.
“The ‘Farmville Tour Guides Project’ challenges students to conduct in-depth research on a particular chapter of the Farmville story and design learning experiences for their peers. The project culminated on Barbara Johns Day 2024 with a series of student films and companion learning experiences based on the various school desegregation cases that unfolded across the Commonwealth,” said Beau Dickenson.
Plantiffs from those cases challenging school segregation spent the day with students from all four high schools in Rockingham County, sharing their stories and memories in a tangible way, ending the day with a Q&A panel.
As I listened to the plantiffs share what they endured as children and how they chose to respond, one common thread came bubbling to the top. These quiet heroes made it through their hardship with their faith. Faith gave each of them the courage to look violence and mistreatment in the face with unwavering resolve and a steadfast belief that things would change. Faith wasn’t just a word; faith was their guide, their hope, their strength.
Barbara Johns had no idea students and plantiffs would gather and learn together in the the R.R. Moton High School auditorium, the very spot where she led the peaceful protest.
And, 73 years later, joy was indeed in that room.
Today’s adventure with momma started with a stroll down Beverley Street and ended with blackberry and coconut gelato. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being wheelchair friendly.
Until a few months ago, I never thought much about traveling with a wheelchair and now I see so many places I wanna take momma that aren’t possible.

I gotta say, I’m addicted and I haven’t even taken my first class yet.

Four years ago today, I met this man. Little did I know how fast I would fall and how much I would love him. He is my rock in this crazy life we’ve been building together.
He’s the calm one in all of our chaos. This man greets my endlessly long list of ideas and dreams with smiles and words of encouragement. He adores and supports my kids and my mom. He leads our family with gentleness, compassion, generosity, and patience.
He’s perfectly created to be my partner.
I often think about how God knows what I need at the exact moment I need it and what a gift He gave me in you, Brent.
