We are in recovery mode this morning after the insanity of last week! A huge shoutout to all of you who gleefully bought bouquet after bouquet from local flower farmers and small businesses and local floral designers this Mother’s Day! We had a record breaking week both at the market on Friday (in the pouring rain no less!) and in number of bouquets sent out from the studio! Next year we will need to plant twice as many blooms since we definitely weren’t able to meet the demand for locally grown flowers!

We ended the week with these gorgeous spring florals for Lacie and Matthew in the wonderful Manor garden at the May their love grow and flourish like flowers in spring!

None of this would have been possible without the incredibly hard work and support of my dear mother Hope, my sisters Deb and Angela, and the generosity and kindness and talents of Stacey and Eileen! I am so very blessed.

Wedding #1 is in the books! And we are happy to report that Phoebe’s healing leg was strong enough to have her climbing ladders and making this gorgeous floral arch for Marnie and Jimmy! Cool weather and sprinkles don’t bother spring blooms one bit and while we did have to supplement our farm grown anemone, tulips, quince and daffodils with some roses and hydrangeas, it was so much fun to design in March!! Pro tip for couples: repurpose that gorgeous arbor into a floor meadow for the sweetheart table and mantle decor! It gives you twice the wow for your most expensive florals!!

Many thanks to Jen and Chris for being super stars and carrying so many buckets to the bell tower!

The anemone we left in the soil last season are giving us all kinds of hope for an outstanding season 2024! Thick strong stems (lots of them) and beautiful healthy foliage are indicators that our experiment of interplanting these beauties with our later planting of dahlias was a great success! We’re so excited, we planted another whole bed of them, along with some new to us Hummingbird Iceland Poppies this past week! If you haven’t signed up to be a CSA member yet for 2024, don’t delay!

That’s a wrap, folks! Hard to believe that my (Phoebe’s) wishes for the longest dahlia season ever came true!

This final arrangement of the year is dedicated to my mom and my two sisters, and who have kept everything moving forward since I broke my leg 4 and 1/2 weeks ago.

They all lead incredibly busy lives, but all of them picked up parts of my work load so that we could continue to bring beautiful flowers to you. Not only that, they cared for me, cheered me up, and have allowed me to lean on them fully. I’m humbled by their constant care and generosity.

I had to ask Angela to photograph the arrangement for me. Ever the artist, she delighted in sending me the photo of the bouquet with string trimmer cord next to it with a jaunty, “How’s this?”

“It’s perfect!” I replied.

And it is! That’s a wrap!

Stay tuned for 2024 CSA Share info dropping soon

The GREAT News!

The dahlias have exploded and we have oodles of them headed to this morning! Deb and Frances will be there with buckets of them from 9- noon.

The BAD and UGLY news!

Phoebe slipped and fell down a hill on Monday afternoon and broke her left leg. It was a pretty bad spiral fracture that required stabilization in the form of metal plates and 7 screws to ensure that it heals correctly.

After a surgery on Wednesday, she is being her normal bossy self from the couch. Her family and crew has picked up as much of the harvesting as possible and are bringing that beauty to you!

She is not to put any weight on the leg at all for 3-4 weeks, but a wheelchair and the care of family allowed her to put together some of the final CSA bouquets together last night for delivery today!

NOTES:
All pop ups/markets/events are still moving forward in some fashion due to the loving care and sacrifice of Phoebe’s family, the wonderful field crew, family friends and CSA members and fellow flower farmers. Special thank you to for eventS design help.

Offerings at market for the next two weeks will be dahlias by the stem and dahlia bunches. It’s what we have this time of year that is still going strong and it helps to keep it simple for those helping out on the fly.

Want to help support Wilding Hope through this bump in the road? Phoebe and Angie are going to be doing a bunch of marketing for the 2024 season in the next few weeks. Consider sharing our posts about CSA membership signups, upcoming design workshops, winter and spring planting workshops, and more!

Here’s to rolling with the ouches and coming through it stronger, more resilient, and filled with deep gratitude for the lessons in vulnerability and grace and healing that are a part of the journey.
