We take wintering seriously around here!
It is both the quietest and busiest season for Wilding Hope. So many people think flower farmers have a vacation in the winter. But just like the perennial plants we grow, this time of dormancy is critical for the sustainability of our business and there is an immense amount of labor that goes into this season.
A lot of it is culling or pruning things that didn’t work- getting rid of the “dead wood” and using the lessons learned from exerting those energies to feed the new fresh growth. Making business decisions is often exhausting, and frankly almost impossible to make in the frantic pace and emotional attachment of spring, summer, or fall. But in the quiet of winter when rest is a bit more plentiful, there is more space for clarity.
The CSA business model of buying a membership share in the winter long before the flowers bloom, lets you the consumer share in this period of dreaming, planning and growth. So many of the long term goals of the farm are dependent on knowledge that our customer base is secure and with our CSA members we don’t have to guess about that support! Your financial support for the 2025 season is the deep nutrients that we draw on that allows us to feed new growth for the new season. We love membership signups at any time of year, but those that come through in the dead of winter just hit a bit differently. So, if you are struggling to find direction for the future, and wondering if spring is coming again, consider giving yourself the promise of flowers in 2025 and support our mission of restoration here in central PA.
