Grandpa’s are so special 🤍 I lost mine yesterday and HHE will never be the same.

He was always so supportive and fascinated by all of the Detroit venues and historic buildings you could host a wedding or event in these days. “By golly!” he’d say.

All four of my Grandparents were active members of Detroit and it’s a place I hold so near and dear to my heart 🤍

Choosing your caterer soon? Hear me out…

✽ What is your *estimated* overall food, beverage, and service budget?

✽ What type of catering service/feel are you leading towards for your big day? Full service - plated or stations? “Taco truck” style? Cocktails and apps only?

✽ When contacting catering services, it’s always great to ask the questions: do you provide ALL front-of-house and back-of-house staffing? Do you provide all event logistic equipment? Do you provide linens to any capacity? Do you provide bartending services and product? Do you provide a liquor license?

✽ Does your sales representative join your wedding on-site for the big day? Or do they hand it over to an event captain to run the show?

✽ Does your caterer prep and cook all product on-site? Or do they prep and cook in an off-site kitchen and then reheat on-site for the special day?

✽ Does your caterer adhere to sustainability? And what are those sustainability acts? Ex. ♻️, composting, using compost products (ie. plastic-wear, especially for late night drinking cups), food, waste management, trash removal, etc.

✽ Does your caterer source local produce and local proteins? And if so, which farms are they ordering from?

✽ Does your caterer provide all flatware, glassware, tableware, and all the necessities to produce an event? Or do you have to outsource each individual item for your wedding?

✽ If you do want to add ie. an upgraded fancy water goblet or charger plate — will your caterer handle the management of that product from a separate company?

✽ Can you tell I worked in premier off-site catering for far too long? Like and save this post✔️

B O O K I N G your florist soon? Here are some tips!

✽ establish your color scheme, wedding feel, and flower style based on your venue + season.

✽ acknowledge that some floral types will not be available during your season and in your location.

✽ determine your ballpark budget for floral, decor, and design.

✽ contact a minimum of 3-4 florists around 9-12 months prior to the big day.

✽ review their invoices + ask for floral photos, past weddings examples, and a mood board if they haven’t initially provided.

✽ communicate if you’d like to add smaller floral needs such as boutonnieres, flower crowns, corsages, etc. in your initial wedding quote(s).

✽ review former client feedback, photos, and reviews online.

✽ become knowledgeable about their load-in/set-up timing and load-out procedures at the end of the night (some florist do not return at the end of your event!)

✽ if your florist doesn’t return at the end of the evening, communicate those logistics with your planner, so they can plan accordingly!

✽ have fun with it all 🌸

Hello 👋🏼 My name is Lauren Leigh and I am the enthusiastic face behind Happileigh Hosted Events (“HHE”). HHE is a bicoastal boutique wedding and event planning firm balanced in both southern California and southeast Michigan. With our Detroit art-deco roots and Palm Springs flair expressing our top-notch style, we can tailor our services to your event in any location.

As you begin your event planning journey, you’ll be joyfully greeted with varying levels of support, ranging from month-of coordination to full event design. We provide hands-on guidance and encouragement at every stage of your planning experience, and this is instilled by a carefully curated partnership to honor your one-of-a-kind story.

Owner and lead planner with over 17 years of professional hospitality experience, HHE was founded in 2020 with the bold love of a meticulously designed event, the ability to honor your bespoke style, and with a true passion for attention to detail.
