Pamela and I actually met in a couple of years after her first book came out. I was a student at The University of Arizona studying Chemistry and running the SUAB concerts on campus. I read the book, shared with my friend and cohort Ilana Newman how connected I felt to Pamela. A week later, Miss P called me on campus and asked me to book the band that she managed, SHE, made up of her God Daughter Polly Parsons, boyfriend Jimmy Quill and hotshot guitarist Danny B. Harvey. It was a day that changed the course of my life and I want to feel that magic yourself. That’s why Heal The Music Day—originally the vision of the legendary Rodney Crowell—exists: to rally behind those who dedicate their lives to creating the music that moves us.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Every day, Music Health Alliance walks alongside artists, songwriters, musicians, and the hardworking people behind the scenes, guiding them through unimaginable health challenges. Thanks to your support over the past decade, we’ve helped thousands gain access to life-saving transplants, vital medications, essential mental health services, compassionate end-of-life care, and so much more.

But the work isn’t done. In the last 10 years, we’ve saved the music industry an astounding $127 million in healthcare costs, helping over 25,000 music professionals. In just the last two years, we’ve provided over 6,000 critical mental health counseling sessions and psychiatric services. We've created the first-ever dedicated dental fund to assist with urgent dental needs and launched a pioneering senior care fund. We’re also proud to serve as vital second responders, offering healthcare support during and after crises—from Route 91 to the pandemic, and the devastation caused by hurricanes. We make sure that when disaster strikes, the music community has access to the care they need for the long haul.

On behalf of the Texas State Legislature, the Texas Commission on the Arts is now accepting nominations for the 2025 and 2026 Texas State Artists. Nominations are accepted for Texas State Musician-Nonclassical

Any Texas citizen is able to nominate a living artist in any of the five categories and self-nominations are welcome. Nominees must be native Texans or have resided in the state for at least five years. They must have attained the highest levels of excellence and success in their respective disciplines and earned a statewide, regional or national reputation for their high caliber work.

Nominations will be accepted online through October 15, 2024.

FODfest features local, regional, and national musicians in a unique format that is part concert, part song swap, and part jam session. It is real-time demonstration of the power of music to connect people, generating a sense of community, hope, and healing. FODfest (Friends of Danny Festival) honors the life of , the Wall St. Journal reporter who was abducted and murdered by extremists in Pakistan shortly after 9-11. In addition to being an exceptional reporter, Danny was a fiercely talented musician who believed fervently in the power of music to connect people regardless of their differences. As he traveled the world, he’d seek out and sit in on local jam sessions as a way to connect with the local community and learn about their culture.

FODfest embodies that spirit of connection and bringing people together through music. FODfest is produced by , an Atlanta-based, globally serving nonprofit that curates experiences for people across social divides to discover common ground through facilitated conversation and music.

2024 marks the 20th annual FODfest. While the event has been happening as one-off events in select locations each year, we’re aiming to commemorate this milestone with our first FODfest tour since 2010, marking the return to the days of the event as a touring concert.

Host or help organize a FODfest in your town. Our flagship concert started in a backyard and has taken place at a wide range of venues, conventional and otherwise, including coffee houses, community centers, theaters, living rooms, houses of worship, colleges, and even an olive grove, bomb shelter, and the National Mall to name a few.

First world problem :( I had to cancel my SiriusXM subscription after being faithful and fulfilled since 2001 when Jessie Scott shared a friends and family deal and we had boom boxes! With no notice my month subscription went from $6 a month to $36 and it took me two years to get it down, with no auto-pay which had created the snafu they never reimbursed for. Today when I called to renew I was told it is beyond their control and all accounts are now on auto-pay. I am heartbroken as I have so many beloved friends who DJ, I am going on the LSUG cruise and I listen all day, every day but a women has to trust her gut on trusting systems that have access to one's money once burned.😩
