Flower friends! 🌸 I’m excited to announce that the u-cut is officially open! While our greenhouses and parts of the farm are still under construction, I do ask to be mindful of the space and also make sure to follow the signs for instructions. Here is the recipe: Procut gold sunflowers + Abratax Dahlias + Aplenglow Zinnas & Benarys + pink hypericum + lemon balm + blush lisianthus && that’s misc yellow button flower again 😂 Still haven’t had any luck identifying it but I love it! I also tagged a few of the seed sources in the photos if you’re interested in growing any of these next season. I definitely will be growing all these again.

The Dyers Chamomile is really taking off this year! I’ve been experimenting with growing flowers to use for dying clothing. I dream of entire patch dedicated to dyes - thanks to who inspired me. 💕I also wanted to share some photos of our road trip last week over to South Dakota. We had such a great time! Definitely putting more family road trips on our buckets list. ❤️

I wish there was a scratch and sniff bottom on here for you guys. The smell of flowering to***co is so rich and sweet it’s intoxicating. Highly recommend growing this is your garden if you love fragrant flowers. 🌸 I’m going to arrange some in a bridal bouquet for tmw!
Meet the woman who taught me how to work hard for what for want! 💪 It’s that time on year the where the w**ds start coming thick. It’s always a chore I put off and don’t recommend doing that but it happens. I always like to w**d on rainy days because the soil is moist and it makes it way easier to get the roots out. Anyone else been putting off w**ding their garden? Just know, you’re not alone! ;)

I can’t wait for all my peonies to be this big! 🌸 The field peonies were planted two years ago and most of the varieties I planted take at least three years to get to full size. Another super fun tulip variety pulled out of the garden yesterday. 🌷 I wish I could tell you the name but my labels got washed out in the rain. Any of my gardener friends out there have a good recommendation for waterproof plant labels? I’ve tried two different kinds on markers. Both didn’t work. Thinking maybe a label maker that’s prints waterproof stickers?

Highlights from the week!
1.New variety of tulips ready to be harvested
2. Working on getting the perennial beds w**ded
3. First CSA Delivery of the season!
4. Pressuring washing the greenhouses to get off all the algae. If you live on the coast the algae builds up fast.
5. Got the greenhouse secured/washed down and trying to keep the ducks out/away from the seedlings. It’s also important to keep the greenhouse clean to limit spread of algae to seedlings .

How is it already week 9 of the Flowers CSA!? This season has gone by so fast. Glad we still have 3 weeks left because I have so many more flowers I want to share with you all! 😍 There is a lot more to the process of getting these blooms to you and I’ll keep posting more behind the scenes for you. A very important part of our process is the “resting” in the cooler. I try to harvest flowers as early as possible. The morning as are when they are the most hydrated and will survive the cut much longer. Once they are cut they go into what I call “resting.” Typically in the cooler (some varieties don’t like cold temps) The reason for doing this is that rapid cooling removes field heat gives them time to retain food/water. This also them to slow down their aging process and improve the quality by preventing dropping, reducing discoloration and help retain their scent. Fun fact for the day!

A mini birthday getaway to Mt.Rainer last night and back home within 24 hours to harvest for tmw flower csa. A little reminder that you can still take a break from work and you don’t even have to go that far. We live so close to some of the most breathtaking places. 🤍
When I pulled up to set up today’s wedding I noticed they had the most beautiful flower garden & dahlia patch. The gals inside the barn had buckets of flowers surrounding them as they were designing the centerpieces. It made my heart melt. I love seeing people grow their own flowers and to share the experience of harvesting and designing together is so special. I had the honor of designing the wedding party and the arbor statements. 🤍
I’ve been wanting to do a farmstand here is Bay Center for awhile now but haven’t gotten to it because I felt like I needed to build a stand/find a place on the main road, etc. Then I just decided I would put up my pop up tent here at the garden and try it out! My hope is to provide more access to the flowers from the farm and also at great price! So the FARMSTAND :) is open this weekend. It sits under a yellow tent on the left hand corner of the garden. Ahhh… the sunflowers and dahlias are finally starting to come on. Flowers are now available @pioneergrocerystore in South Bend. Hoping to have flowers available for you in there until the end of the season. 🌻🩷 Also, here is this weeks csa bouquet recipe for those of you who are interested. Wedding season is in full swing! It’s been awhile since I have designed with sunflowers for a wedding and I LOVE that strawberry sunnies paired perfectly with this color palette 🎨

The farm had its first tour on Saturday, and it went better than I could have imagined. 💕 I was just a tad bit worried ;) about how it would all play out - parking, flow, answering questions, and cleaning up. But it all came together beautifully. I had the pleasure of meeting so many other gardeners and like-minded individuals who share the same love for the earth, plants, and beauty. 👩🌾 Thanks for having me on the tour this year, WSU. 🙏
Fog rolled in thick this evening. 🌫️ The dahlias, like most all the annual crops are growing pretty slow this season. Anyone else noticing the same thing? Temps are still suppose to be in the 60s this week here is Bay Center. Last year the dahlias were popping right now. Gardening definitely teaches you a lot but most definitely to be patient. I’ve been working on getting the farm ready for its first tour! The Pacific County Master Garden tour is tmw (Sat) from 10-4. Great opportunity to go see some amazing local gardens. 👩🌾
Today was all about putting in support for the flowers at the farm. I’ve learned my lesson the hard way unfortunately, now this is must do! In the past I would think the flowers wouldn’t topple over and they almost always did. Nothing more frustrating than bent stems at harvest time. I slam in fiberglass rods, lay down Hortona netting and slip metal hoops over the rods. Works great for me! 🤙
