Hello, my name is Mike Thornett. As a member of the Damascus community since 1978, I have recognized that many activities revolve around our youth, especially with sports and the many events available to families and youth in our schools. I have also recognized the influence the the local churches and civic organizations bring to the Damascus Community. In Montgomery and surrounding counties, Dama
scus is one of the last towns that can call itself a true community. Yet, our town must make a better effort to enthusiastically recognize the importance of the Arts in Damascus. When we speak of Damascus changing, we are talking about a recognizable interest and emphasis in music, arts and crafts, the growth of which will add a unique dimension to an already wonderful place to live. Three Damascus non-profits have joined efforts to organize a Damascus Art, Music and Craft Festival at the Damascus Community Recreation Center, to be held on May 16, 2015. The proceeds of the Festival will be used directly by the non-profits for the education and development of the youth in Damascus who experience a financial hardship. The Festival will also be an opportunity for Artisans to display and sell their art or craft in an indoor facility in a 10’X10’ space.
