I was recently given the title of one of the top 10 family photographers in the Click 2024 best photographer awards. 😱 So many people entered so to get top 10 is wild to me. I also got three photos in the honorable mentions, as well.

I often forget to enter contests so yay for actually doing it, and yay for winning an award! And yay for remembering to announce it (if a few weeks late, haha).

All I want to do lately is cuddle on the couch with my cat and watch cheesy Christmas movies. Where has my motivation gone?! This happens every year at this time, anyone else? You work so hard all year and then you just crash. I’ll get my motivation back, I just need to watch a few more Hallmark movies first… 🤣

I’ve been trying to go to this location for 2 years and I finally made it happen! Going up to the mountains in the fall is difficult because you want to go when the color is out, but if you wait too long the snow comes in and makes it impossible. Finally got the timing right this year and the colors are everything I hoped they would be! The end of September looks like the end of October here, so beautiful! The only thing that’s missing is the view of Mt. Rainier because the clouds rolled in but I don’t even mind. This spot is gorgeous either way!

This location is possibly my new favorite! It’s best this time of year because of where the sun is and I just love the golden grass. But I’ve also used this location in the spring and the tall green grass looks gorgeous, too! If you book with me, this is an option for your session. The cool thing about it is that it’s very private 🙌

Okay, you hear me constantly talk about how, during family photos, the best images come when kids are allowed to be themselves… no “no’s” unless it’s a safety issue. If you book with me, I’ll probably say this 4 or 5 times before your session, lol! 🤪

But I was thinking about how this idea applies to real life too. Why are we so quick to say no when our kids want to get a little messy, be silly, or do something harmless but loud? What if we just let them?

I’m a mom of teenagers (14 and 16 now!) and here’s what I’ve noticed: when we let kids be themselves, we strengthen our connection with them. They’re happier, and so are we. We’re not bogged down by constant discipline, and our relationships grow more relaxed and trusting. Letting go of perfection allows for more fun, more laughter, and more happy memories.

So when you go about your daily lives, maybe let them jump in the puddle, put temporary tattoos all over their arm, roll down the hill, get the haircut they want, wear the mismatched outfit to school… you get the point 😉

Yesterday I picked up Ethan from school for his orthodontist appointment and we went to lunch first. Teenage boys spend a lot of time in their room so it’s really awesome to get some one-on-one time. We chatted about school, music he likes, future travel plans, ideas for what he might want to do when he grows up, etc. He’s typically not super chatty so when we have long conversations, it feels special. Love that kid.

This weekend I went on a solo trip to the coast because I had sessions two days in a row. Is it weird that I love solo trips? It’s so nice to relax somewhere beautiful and do whatever it is that I want to do.

I’m also getting super excited for the fall season! Here are some fall photos from last year to hopefully get you excited for fall, too! My openings are super limited because I’ll be traveling in Europe from October 17-November 8th. Another (mostly) solo trip! Have you ever taken a solo trip and if so, have any tips for me? This will be my first one out of the country!

This weekend we went on a last minute trip to southern Oregon. The point was to visit my little sister and her family and we had a great Saturday celebrating birthdays! We also went to their wellness center and I got to try out the dry float bed (so nice!!). Then on Sunday we explored Crater Lake National Park for the first time! We’ve lived here for almost 15 years and have never been 🤦🏻‍♀️. It’s insane how huge it is, and extremely beautiful. We hiked down to the water and took a boat tour around the lake. It was brutal walking back up but we did it! Worth the sore legs later!

I just love when another photographer hires me to take their family photos. What a compliment!! is a dream to work with and her family is so much fun! We were lucky with a gorgeous day at the Oregon Coast and a beautiful sunset!

I taught at a family photography retreat over the weekend about video, and there were a couple of shootouts during. This was the outdoor shootout and I could not be more in love with this family! you are gorgeous!

I spent a night at the beach with my kids this weekend and it was so great to have that time with them. I made a point to not be on my phone unless it was needed, which is always important to me to do. We did some tide pool exploring at low tide, had too much ice cream, and played Mario Party in the hotel room (Ethan’s request).

I was at the beach for this photo session and look how adorable they all are! They did lots of running and playing in the waves and sand, I’m sure their car needs a vacuum now, lol. Worth it!

This family came all the way from Alabama and were very lucky with the timing because look at these sweet peas! The bloom this year was insane. And those giant dandelions (which are called Salsify or Goats Beard. I like Goats Beard better 😆). You can tell this family was loving all of it.

Last month this field was in peak condition and I was super excited when a fellow photographer booked her family photos here. We planned this in 2 days, isn’t it amazing what two photographers can put together so quickly? Lol. This weekend I’ll be teaching about family films at her retreat near Olympia, WA and I can’t wait!

New York was fun and different, but nothing can beat the beautiful Oregon landscape. This past week I got to enjoy lots of it, too! Tons of photo sessions in flowers, plus a day at the river with family and friends. I definitely did love the city and all the fun things you can do within walking distance, but I couldn’t live there. Nature is my favorite.
