This year, we’re baking 60,000 cookies for the Polar Express train in Old Sacramento and Jamestown. This is our 14th year baking Cookies for the @californiastaterailroadmuseum It has become our tradition, and it’s something we look forward to every year! 🥰 I started out with no kitchen, no crew! I made friends with a restaurant owner who let me use the kitchen at night after they closed. I called a few friends who wanted to make extra money. So, in a tiny kitchen, the size of a closet, with an oven with only two racks, a crew of 6 people, including myself, we baked from 9pm - 3am. I made the dough from scratch. We scooped, baked, packaged, heat sealed and labeled every cookie by hand. We could only bake 192 cookies an hour, our goal was 1000 cookies per night. We did it! We’re happy to still be baking for the Polar Express to this day! Now having access to a commercial kitchen, we’re able to bake 750 cookies an hour. With a crew of 10 people, we still package every cookie by hand. Follow along our cookie adventures this holiday season! Being in business for over 15 years, I’ve had many moments where I wanted to quit. Moments where I question whether I’m still doing what I love. I came so close to throwing in the towel just last year in February. Luckily, I am self-aware enough to know to not make any major decisions when I am going through strong emotions. So I gave myself a few months to think, and to process how I’m feeling. And then in July of that same year, I realized that I would very much regret it if I did quit. I wasn’t happy with the current situation my business was in so what I needed was not to quit but to pivot. I also needed to reassess my goals and vision. I had to remind myself that there’s really no end goal when it comes to business. It’s an infinite game. And that’s what I love about it! 🥰 In addition to baking thousands of cookies this holiday season, I am also running an online marketplace. I was an artist before I was a baker/business owner. I mostly painted landscapes. Then I traded my paint brush for icing. Been a long time since I held a brush. So I’m quite surprised that this turned out great. This is my first time using body paint. My son loves the way it looks. 🥰 Took 2.5 hours but I really did enjoy it! Happy Monday!! I’m trying to enjoy the Fall weather as much as I can before it starts getting too cold to be outside in the morning. This is where I spend most of my early mornings. Listening to birds singing, leaves rustling, and channeling my creative side. I try to make all of my social media stuff on Mondays. That includes reels, posts, stories, blog, recipes. I schedule them for the rest of the week. I find that I’m more tired later in the week and I’m not as creative. So Mondays it is! When do you feel most creative?
