Went on a backpack trip this weekend. Got to hang out with some good friends, spend loads of time in nature, see some great sites, and spent time at a back country lake.

Here are a couple more photos from our trip to the Olympic Peninsula. Anna and I spent a fair amount of time at this beach, mostly because I was taking so many photos of this sea stack. Anyway, it was a beautiful location and there were only a couple other people at this beach which was surprising to me.

Please enjoy!

Olympic National Park: A haven for those who seek adventure and a solace for those seeking tranquility. From the heights of Mount Olympus, the vistas of Hurricane Ridge and sub-alpine environment, to the miles of beaches and their wild waves, dramatic sea stacks, driftwood-strewn shores and innumerable tide pools; it's a place where the Pacific meets land in a symphony of natural wonder. On the beaches you'll come into contact with a myriad of wildlife: sandpipers, bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters and anemones are just a few of these life forms that call these beaches home. These beaches are a theater of life's unending play. The rainforest, blankets of moss and immense canopies, the forest is home to hundreds of species, illuminating the web of life. The rugged beauty of Olympic National Park has nearly everything to offer with the exception of volcanic activity.

Here are a few photos taken on our trip to Olympic National Park, please enjoy!

Mount Rainier National Park: The realm of adventure, the grandeur of massive mountain peaks, large glaciers, incredible waterfalls, steep hikes and innumerable vistas. It's not just the views that are arresting, but the wildlife as well. This mountain is home to hundreds of species ranging from black bears, foxes, marmots, wolverines, eagles, robins and mountain lions to name a few. Hiking trails range from easy, family friendly to intense and life threatening mountaineering that require serious experience, but all will promise incredible sites, majestic landscapes and intimate encounters with natures unmatched beauty. At the center of this park, Mount Rainier, stands out like a massive beacon, creating its own weather and its own ecosystem. The alpine gardens, rain forests and plethora of creeks and rivers are a marvel and it was certainly a pleasure to view it's mesmerizing beauty, natures artful masterpiece.

Please enjoy this short sample of photos I took while Anna and I explored the park for a couple days.

It's been a while since I've been out hiking or taking my camera out for any sort of photography.

Life has been a bit busy and all of a sudden it is June and I haven't even been up to Glacier National Park yet this year.

Anyway, Anna and I will be in Rainier National Park and Olympic National Park this next week to celebrate our anniversary. When we return, I should have a few more photos to share.

These are a couple photos I took this last week with my brand new 70-200mm lens. Lolo Peak has been showing off for the last month or so and I have been meaning to go out and get some photos of it. I finally remembered to take my camera with me and I lucked out as the clouds split and the sun shined through onto the mountain while also illuminating the flowers in front of me.

Please enjoy!

Been working on some experimental editing as of late. I'm not usually one who likes to edit my photos a lot. I try to do as little adjustment to the original image as possible.

These experimental edits are the opposite of what I usually do, and I did huge adjustments to each photo. These adjustments are more along the lines of “artistic” editing, as opposed to more traditional editing.

I did this experiment as a challenge to myself to expand my photography a little and see what I can push myself to do in the artistic sense.

Each week (for the next few weeks anyway) I am going to try to release 3 or 4 experimental edits, next to their original edit, so you can see the difference.

Here is my first set, please enjoy!

2023 was a good year for photography for me.

I was able to travel all over the country and see amazing sites. From Maine to Oregon, from Alaska to Wyoming and all around Montana I was blessed to see many amazing places. From the road and off the beaten path, I was able to see some amazing sites from waterfalls to wildlife to some of the most incredible vistas I've seen to date.

In 2023, I downloaded 11,069 captures from my camera to my computer. Of those, I chose 440 to edit (3.975% of the total).
When I look back, this is a pretty huge improvement as I used to only like and edit about 1% of the photos I took even just a year ago. I'm still super picky and critical of my photos (obviously) but I hope to continue improving at the craft and one day be at a point where I like 25% or 50% of the photos I take.

Here is to another year and hopefully a year of improvement in my photography journey.

Please enjoy this handful of highlights from 2023!

I was in Glacier this weekend. Fall is in full swing, trees and bushes and grasses are all in orange, red and yellow. It was beautiful indeed.

I got up early before sunrise and went on a hike/climb up Reynolds Peak. I made it a fair amount of the way up, 600ft from the peak in terms of elevation, maybe 1/8 or 1/4 mile from the top. The snow and ice were starting to get to be a problem and I was no feeling it safe to continue to the top.
I stopped and found a nice large flat ledge and rested a while. I made myself lunch (mountain house meal) and took photos from where I was sitting. The panorama shot was the view I had nearly 300 or 320 degrees.

Enjoy!

Anna and I spent five days in Grand Teton National Park this last week. As being a my third time to the park in September, I decided this time I was going to focus primarily on wildlife photography. Over the five days in the park, I spent three going after wildlife, grizzly bears, in particular, were my focus, but alas they evaded me. After two mornings of failure to find any grizzly bears, I switched my focus to moose.

We had two days where we went on hikes as well and those were great outings for us as we were itching to get some physical activity in. I even dabbled in night photography for the first time with this camera and it worked very well.

In any case, this is a small sampling of the photos I took while on this trip.

Please Enjoy!

Photos of the beautiful landscape we got to see a couple weekends ago while backpacking.

Many of these were taken at different times of the day at the same spot of the lake. Others were while we were scrambling up to the top of those snow fields in the distance.

The wildflowers were in full bloom on this trip and it made the views absolutely amazing.

Please enjoy!
