Recent shoot with and Hiro. Always a pleasure working with Julie. We’ve connected a lot in the last years and helped each other grow in our businesses. It’s nice to know that I have people in my life who trust in my work to create something for them.

Hello family & friends! I am looking to expand my roster of photographers who I can call upon when I am in need of a second shooter and possibly a third shooter as well. I’m looking for people who have at least 2-3 years experience shooting weddings or events, have a variety of lenses (preferably 24-70, 70-200, 35, 85) and comfortably being able to direct people. I pay by the hour the day of and I will make sure you are well fed. If you are or if you know someone that may be interested, please DM me or email me at [email protected]. Also if you are someone that is interested in photography and want to tag along in my shoots to learn a bit more, feel free to DM or email me and I’ll see if I can have y’all come along. Thank you 🙏🏾

Honored once again to be featured in SD Voyager, this time in the “Hidden Gems” section. Thank you to whoever nominated me to share my story. 10 years and I’m still shooting consistently. In fact, I’m shooting a wedding tomorrow on Valentine’s Day onboard the San Diego Hornblower. Thank you to everyone who still support and believe in my work. 💙

Day #31: Self-portrait taken on December 31st 2022. Shot with a Nikon D810 w/ Nikorr 85mm 1.8. 2 light setup using a LED panel and a beauty dish with a flash.

Looking back at all the shoots I’ve done in the past 10 years, I can truly say that I succeeded my intentions when I started doing photography. That I have something to look back on, I didn’t waste my life and that I can actually create something. Getting into photography was the best decision I’ve ever made because it made me a better person. It made me more sociable, responsible and detailed oriented. For sure I’ll be doing photography for a very long time. Well at least until I develop carpal tunnel so bad that I can’t pickup a camera. Let’s hope that will never happen. I’m ready for the new year and looking forward to creating. 📸

Day #30: Statistics and behind the scenes photos from 2012-2022

In this post I would like to show some statistics. This data is from all the hard drives and cameras I currently own.

Total of shoots from 2012-2022: 465

Total of weddings from 2012-2022: 47

Total of photos processed, edited and exported: 106,072

D810 current shutter count: 95,451
D800 current shutter count: 55,524
D7100 current shutter count: 60,787
Total shutter: 211,762

The number of shoots are based on the number of files in each hard drive. Every shoot I did had its own file whether it was a paid shoot, unpaid shoot or just random outings where I brought out my camera.

Day #28: Weddings 2013-2022

When I started doing photography back in 2012, I never thought I would ever become a wedding photographer. I never thought it would take me to places around the world. And I never thought it would become a business. In 10 years, I’ve shot a total of 47 weddings. From small intimate weddings to large scale weddings with 400+ guest. I’ve traveled across the US and also traveled across the Pacific Ocean. I’ve captured so many epic and funny moments. Also I witness the families that came together and the new families that came out of it. I am so grateful to experience all these moments. Thank you to all who hired me as your wedding photographer. I hope I met your expectations plus more. It was a pleasure to work with you all. 💙

Day #27: Wedding Engagements 2013-Present

Wedding engagements is another specialty I’ve grown to enjoy doing so much. I think one of the challenges of doing engagements is to capture genuine emotions. People might feel awkward infront of the camera, so I keep the vibes up by talking and engaging. Once people open up more, you can explore more creatively. I got a pretty good grip on doing engagements and so far most of the feedback I get are all positive. As always, I’m thankful for those who hired me for their engagements. I really enjoyed doing the work and happy to be of service. 💙

Day #26: Maternity 2013-Present

One speciality that I never thought I would really get into is maternity photos. I actually think doing maternity photos really brings out my creativity. Like with most of my work, I try to differentiate myself from others. I usually start with traditional poses just to get those out of the way then I get a bit more creative throughout the shoot. I really enjoy doing these and I’m glad people are starting to notice my work. Thank you to all who trusted in my work to create something magical for you. 💙

Day #25: Families

I just want to say thank you to all the families that I’ve been working with in the past couple of years and to the new families as well. Thank you for trusting me in my work and supporting what I do. For many of the families I work with, I’ve watched their family grow throughout the years. For example with the Taleb family, I’ve shot most of all of their life events. I did their wedding, maternity, baptism, 1st family photo, 2nd maternity, 2nd family photo, 3rd family photo, etc. It’s so awesome witnessing their growth. My main goal in doing family photography is making sure people feel comfortable infront of the camera. So I always do my best to make people laugh and smile genuinely during my shoots. I feel like the best kind of photographers are the ones who engages more and keeps the vibes up. So the more consistent flow of shoots, the better I get. Thank you everyone for choosing me as your family photographer. I always look forward to creating with y’all every time. 💙 Merry Christmas! 🎁🎄

Day #24: Cabradilla Family

I want to give a special shoutout to the Cabradilla family who have been very supportive during my photography journey. Not only have they hired me for many of their life events, but they have introduced to many other families to where I’ve become their family photographer as well. I remember meeting Michael and Jenny for the first time back in 2013 at my friend’s wedding where I was one of the photographers and we were talking about they know another person named Jerson. Which to me was crazy cuz I’ve never met another Jerson. Ever since then we connected and I started doing photos for them. Michael and Jenny are amazing people and I appreciate all the kind gestures I get from them. Truly blessed to have met them and I always look forward creating moments with them. 💙

Day #23: San Diego Poke Company Yohei Umezu

Just want to give a shoutout to Yohei and San Diego Poke Company. Yohei hired me a couple of years ago to take photos of his food that he sold at a street market. Which he would eventually opened up his own restaurant so I would then take photos for his menu. Product photography was something I was familiar with because of the hat company that I did photos for. So doing these photos were fairly simple. But one photo that I created that Yohei commissioned me for was one of my best works. He wanted a picture of the Normal Heights sign so he can put it up in his new restaurant location that was going to be in that area. The amount of work that I put on this photo was freaking crazy. Shooting it was hard cuz we had to shoot in the middle of a busy street. It was a long exposure so the camera I had to be still for a couple of secs. I remember Yohei and I just directing cars to move pass us and try not to hit us. So when we finally got the shot, I had to go home and edit it. It took a couple of days just to get the right edit. I think total I did over 15 different edits until we decided to use the final one. When I saw the photo in his restaurant, I was blown away. I couldn’t believe the size of it and how good it looked. Unfortunately that location had to close down in 2020, but from what I’ve been hearing is that the photo is still on that wall, but own by a different restaurant. Just want to say thank you to Yohei for the opportunity and it was a pleasure working with you. 💙

Day #22: Collaborations 2013-2017

Just want to thank all the people who collab’d with me in the past years. Helping me hone my skills while creating great images of y’all. Thank you for sharing the work we made and getting my name out there. I honestly just grateful for the people who wanted to work with me. If people never asked me to work with them…I would still be shooting flowers, sunsets and buildings…bored out of my fu***ng mind. Just having that experience of interacting and directing people helped me get to where I am at today. So thank you again everyone. 💙

Day #21: Wendy “Wen Rock” Lam

I think one of the hardest things for a photographer (or just artists in general) is differentiating yourself from others. Having a distinct style that people will be amazed by it. Putting that “wow factor” in your art. But honing that skill can be tough. Unless you have something or someone to draw inspiration from. Along came Wen. Wen and I created most of my best works. Some were planned out and others just came naturally. When you have someone like Wen who is very agile, graceful, quirky, strong and blessed with great skin you can’t help it but draw so many inspirations to create beautiful images. From breakdancing at the waterfront park, doing “leg tuts” on a dancing pole, headshots at Old Poway Park, dancing in a middle of a grass field in LA to doing commercial shots at Julie’s garage. Wen has right now the most collab shoots with me. We produced “profile pics” worthy images. But one photo that I love the most is a shot from 2015 at LA Live. This was when the Furies were preforming their aerial acts. I caught a shot of Wen just smiling. Just pure joy on her face. This is a person who loves what she is doing. She’s an entertainer. Just capturing that moment was everything. Plus the lighting and composition was on point. Also that was the first night Wen and I had a conversation. I forgot what were talked about cuz I was really drunk that night and it was 7 years ago 😂. F**k this is a longass post. Wen thank you for being an inspiration to me. Doing these shoots gave me more confidence to be more creative for my clients. 💙

Day #20: Vu Nguyen ._nguyen

Vu is one of the most supportive people in my life and he motivated me to keep on pursuing my photography further. I remember he was always hyping me up when he introduces me to people as a photographer. He was there with me when I was shooting at bars around San Diego. He always asked if I’m bringing my camera around just because there might be an opportunity to capture something. I’m glad I did bring my camera around cuz I captured a lot funny moments. Vu even bought my first camera and started to do photography himself. He was just a walking book of encouragement. It’s that encouragement that I needed to keep on pursuing and in hopes something comes out of it. And it did. So thank you to my brotha Vu. You motivating me has made a huge impact on my success as a photographer. Happy birthday brotha!

Day #19: Laila Salvador

Throughout the years in my photography journey I’ve worked with a lot people. People who were like-minded, creative and fun. Laila was one of those who was always down to create. Whether it was shooting some glamour shots in Julie’s garage, modeling out in the middle of a hiking trail, experimenting with gel lighting or just shooting whatever catches our eyes. She was always up for it and made it enjoyable. Doing these shots helped me so much with engaging and directing. As someone who works with a lot of brides, I have to pose and direct to make sure I’m getting the right shot that looks flattering for my clients. Laila was easy to work with and was very patient with me when some shoots last like 2+ hours long lol 😂 (I’m so sorry I’m so much better now). Also when it comes to editing, I have make sure I don’t over do it so that the skin doesn’t look plastic. Thankfully Laila is a beautifully blessed specimen that I didn’t have to edit much, but it was still great practice. Shooting with Laila really honed my skills to make me a better photographer. Thank you, Laila, you helped a lot in my success as a photographer and the energy you brought when doing these shoots made it fun to do. 💙

Day #18: Julie Taing

When I think of people who inspire me to be more, I think of Julie Taing. Julie has helped me a lot throughout the years in my photography journey. Whether it was providing her amazing make up services, helping out with shoots, recommending me to people or just giving me words of encouragement. She is one of the few that I look up to just because she’s a business owner with a creative mind and just a down to earth person. Thank you Julie for everything. You contributed a lot to my success as a professional photographer more than you know. 💙

Day #17: Light painting/composing with Marissa Garcia. Shot using a Nikon D810 w/ Nikor 24-70mm 2.8. Lighting painting using MagLite from Fotorgear. Shot at Imperial Sand Dunes in 2018

Another one of my masterpieces that I created. During this time in 2018, I was really into long exposure and light painting. That year I got booked for an engagement shoot in Glamis so I decided to bring one of my light tools to do some light painting afterwards. My friend, Marissa, also came along to help
me with the engagement shoot and do some light painting shots with me. The crazy part with the first photo was that the lights in the background that are shining on the sand dunes were actually people on dirt bikes that happened to be in the shot. I loved doing these photos because it really brings out my creativity. Thank you for helping with the shoot and doing these photos with me. You are great to work with and always a great time hanging out with you. 💙

Day #16: Isle SUP Calendar 2017
Shot at Mission Bay. Shot using a Nikon D800 w/ Tamron 35mm 1.4

In 2016, I entered a photo contest where my photo would be featured in a 2017 calendar. It was for a San Diego standup paddle board company. I’ve got into paddle boarding in 2015 and been enjoying it ever since. So when I saw an opportunity to combine both of my favorite hobbies, jumped on it real quick. I always want to try something different with my photos so I thought of doing a mirror photo using sunglasses. I had to plan it out where the sun was about to set. Like right when the sun is at the horizon. So basically I only had a couple of minutes to get the shots right or I would have to try again the next day. With the help of my friend Zane, as I directed him where to shoot at, I got this wonderful shot with me holding my board. Probably one of the coolest shots I’ve created just because of the planning and setup.

Day #15: Gabi & Chun Wedding Engagement at Balboa Park 2017

This is my #1 all time favorite photo that I’ve shot so far. It has all the elements I’ve learned throughout my photography journey. Composition, lighting, editing and even the people I was working with were great. When I show off my portfolio to people, this is the first one I show to them and I always get an “Oh s**t!” reaction. I’ve worked with Gabi and Chun before so doing this shoot was very enjoyable. I’m very grateful for them hiring me for this and also for their wedding. Truly a masterpiece in my eyes.

Day #14: John & My Wedding Engagement at Imperial Sand Dunes & Havasu Falls 2016

Probably one of my best works was in 2016. When John & My approached me and ask if I could take their wedding engagement photos, of course I said yes. Actually it was like, “Hell yeah!” But they also said it would be out of town and one of the places would be at Havasu Falls. When I first heard it was Havasu Falls, I was like, “Whaaaaaa da fuuuuuck?!” Like you ever watch those National Geographic shows and it in they have like those exotic looking places. Yeah that was going through my mind at the moment. First stop though was the sand dunes in Glamis. Beautiful clear skies that day and we got A LOT of great photos. Some I even added a bit of swag during the editing process, but most were great shots straight from the camera. Then the day after we headed to Havasu Falls which was one of the most adventurous shoots I’ve ever done. Especially the hike back to our ride. Which is another story all on its own. In the end, I’m glad I went on this trip with them. Very thankful to for the opportunity. Y’all are an amazing and beautiful couple.

Day #13: DJ Artistic and Good Vibe SD

2013 was a great year for me. Just a year into my photography journey I already started getting paid gigs, shot my first wedding and worked with a local business. What also happened in 2013, is that I got to meet DJ Artistic. It was actually on my bday that year when I was approached by DJ Artistic to ask me if I can take photos at Bar Pink where I was celebrating my bday at with a couple of friends. I guess he spotted me in the crowd taking photos of my friends and assumed I was a photographer. After I sent him the photos he asked me if I was down to do more shoots in the future. And the next thing you know, I was shooting at a bunch of bars around SD. From Bar Pink to Bar West, Onyx, PB Bar & Grill and La Fiesta. This was a great way for me to be more social and not to be afraid to engage with people. Also I had people like ._nguyen and who kept me company at these bars. It was a very learning experience for me and I was also having a great time. So thank you DJ Artistic and the Good Vibe SD fam, it was a pleasure working with y’all. 💙

Day #12: Brian “BG” Geonanga

When I think of people who supported my photography since day 1, I have to mention my brotha BG. Not just my photography, BG has always supported me in everything in my life. I’ve known BG since preschool. SINCE PRESCHOOL. So we have a very long history. When I told BG that I wanted to get into photography, he was all for it. In fact, BG is the one who created my logos. He has helped me so much that I owe him a lot. Just having someone encouraging you to do something can really go a long way. Even when I go on “grind mode”, BG knows that I’m doing just fine and no need to worry. It is why he is one of my best friends.

Day #11: Taitingfong Wedding 2013

My very first wedding. Just a year into my photography journey and I’m already asked to shoot a wedding. I was so shocked and happy when they asked me to shoot their wedding. I was like, “Oh s**t! It’s time to time really step it up!” To be honest, I was really relieved that they also had hired two other photographers cuz I couldn’t handle the pressure of doing a wedding by myself for the first time. It was such monumental event for me because it was my chance to test my abilities and to really see if I am capable of shooting weddings. Weddings are a big deal. So I always give my very best at every wedding. Thank you and .taitingfong for trusting me and giving me the opportunity. 💙
