LUNCH & LEARN: Living with Nervous Nora

Nervous Nora is a beloved mixed-breed rescue with fear based reactivity who is learning to navigate this world with the help of her guardian Andreanna.
Andreanna is a Golden Dog Club member who has attended over 10 adventures with her furry BFF. In today’s Lunch & Learn, we will learn all about Nervous Nora and why Andreanna and Nora have found a safe haven with Golden Dog at events that offer a fun, positive, and welcoming environment for ALL dogs and their people.

Ready for Summer? Keep your pups safe this season with these 5 essential summer safety tips! 🌞🐾
✅ USE SUNSCREEN
Using sunscreen for dogs is an important safety measure, especially during the sunny summer months. Just like humans, dogs can suffer from sunburns, particularly those with light-colored or thin coats, or with less fur on areas like the belly, ears, and nose. 🌞🐶
✅ AVOID PAW PAD BURN
During the summer, pavements, sand, and other surfaces can become hot enough to burn a dog's paw pads. To prevent these burns, always test the surface temperature with your hand 🖐️ before allowing your dog to walk on it. Schedule walks for early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler 🌒, and consider using paw pad balm or dog booties 🐾 to provide extra protection for your dog's paws on especially hot days.
✅ PROTECT THEIR EYES
Dogs don't usually need eye protection from the sun unless they're in certain situations, like active dogs, dogs with large eyes, or short-legged dogs. However, sun exposure can damage a dog's eyes, and some dogs may benefit from eye protection like Dog Goggles (aka Doggles). 🕶️
✅ WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING
Dogs that are hairless, light-colored, have thin coats or skin conditions are especially susceptible to sunburn and should wear sun protective clothing. Hairless breeds like the Xoloitzcuintli and Chinese Crested, dogs with light-pigmented fur or skin, and those with short or fine hair are at higher risk. Also, dogs recovering from surgery or those that are photosensitive, reacting negatively to light, need additional protection against sun exposure. 👕🛡️
✅ AVOID PEAK SUN HOURS
To safeguard your dog during peak sun hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), plan walks and playtime in the cooler early morning or late evening. Choose shaded routes, keep your dog hydrated, 💦 and watch for signs of heat 🔥 stress. Consider using a cooling vest or mat to help manage their body temperature, ensuring their saf
