Where am I?
For almost two decades, a very special man very generously and graciously poured himself into a mixture of high-energy, lonely, silly, scared, needy kids, and instilled in us the deep, deep love of God, helped us realize our self-worth and showed us the truth of Who Jesus is. I was blessed to be one of those kids, along with my sister and brother. We all knew this man loved us as if we were his own kids. It didn’t matter what time, or where we were, we knew if we needed him, he would always come running. Because of him, our youth group at Crawford Baptist Church was more like family. To many of us, he was our second dad. We truly all did life together for years: camps, choir tours, skits, banquets, football games, youth revivals, ministry, mission trips, VBS, weekly fellowships, hanging out just for fun, special events just for us to make us feel special, and always ALWAYS God’s Word. He wanted us to know and love his Jesus!
For more than forty years, this group has remained close. These are the people I first shared a stage with. And we did that many times over the years! HA. It’s all their fault! 😂 Some of the best years of my life! These are my people. These are the ones I call on when I need someone to pray for me. These are the first I tell good news to. These are the ones I lean on when I just need a good cry. And for the most part, it’s been like that since we were teenagers.
This very special man, who was the glue that held us all together, was our “youth director” (which is what they were called back in the day), Bro. Donald M Bond.
“Bro. Don” fell and broke his hip, and had to have surgery. He’s in rehab. Most of us haven’t seen him in a few years. So, today, a small group of us (small because many of us have gone on to Heaven) surprised him with a visit. We sang a few hymns and a couple of his favorite old choir tour songs. He even directed us on his favorite song, which left us all in a puddle of tears.

She has just discovered this little cove of trees Retired Man cleared out for her to play in and she’s been having the time of her life climbing, swinging from the branches, doing her schoolwork on a branch, and swinging her friends in the trees. I hope she always remembers Grandaddy and LOLly’s house with fondness and wants to come for lots and lots of visits. Grandaddy is just thrilled she now knows this is his house too. For the first 4-5 years of her life, she was always told she was going to LOLly’s house; so she thought Grandaddy just came for visits too. 😂
