I’m going to take a moment to be real with everyone.
I am really not even a wedding DJ.
I started by throwing house parties, nightclub events, and concerts. Currently I consider myself an open format and EDM DJ (including house, techno, and riddim). I paid the Knot / WW thousands in advertising dollars (upwards of 100k over the years) to connect me with couples that might be interested in what I do. The minimum qualification for the Knot or a Wedding Wire award is 5 reviews from clients averaging 5 stars during that year. That’s it. I usually do wayyyy more than that but what I am trying to point out is that if you are great at what you do and are thinking about starting a business: go for it. Find out where people shop and pay for the top advertising placement you can. Don’t be like everybody else. Create your own niche, be a professional, actually care about people, upload dope media, request reviews, and take a deep dive into developing your sales process. Most importantly this includes self-education! You can make it as easy or as difficult as you want it to be. Interject working both hard and smart where appropriate. A lot of people in the wedding industry believe that the Knot and Wedding Wire don’t work. Don’t be fooled. The Knot and Wedding Wire work if YOU make it work. I wouldn’t pay them if it didn’t. I am incredibly thankful for their platform that helps people like me grow.
I especially want to thank my amazing clients. I truly value being able to have such an intense impact on your event; so much it makes me want to cry. We are forever bonded through your day. Your heartfelt reviews make awards like this possible.

This Thanksgiving season I want to give a shout out to all of my friends, family members, and clients. With your help, I have been able to spread love to others on a whole new scale. I have grown my DJ brand tremendously, made the Knot's Hall of Fame, and have even booked the majority of next year. A few months ago I doubled my rates to the point where they are on par with the value I provide, comparable with some of the top DJs in the country! I don't believe that I am competing with them. I do believe that I provide a niche solution for love radiating music and fitness enthusiasts. I credit this success to everyone that has helped support me through my origins of throwing house parties at Winona State, starting a college nightclub, and winning king of wings championships lol jk. Even more thanks to everyone has supported my continued journey opening for major artists, working with professional sports teams and fitness brands, and building a Hall of Fame winning brand. I truly could not have done it without you. I look forward to your continued support as I release music coming soon on all major streaming platforms. I am also working on a book!!! 🙂
Despite these successes I want to take some time to be real with you. The accomplishments I just mentioned haven’t come easy. There is a lot of hardship that I don’t post about. Just because I don’t post about them that doesn’t mean that it isn’t there. Times can be hard. Sometimes my cash flow goes negative, the idea that I have doesn’t work, and I find myself scarred AF making a jump on an idea I have. Sometimes I don’t even make a jump and give myself FOMO. At times I have put my sleep and health at risk. Regardless, I love the challenge. I believe that in order to grow, you should continuously upgrade to better problems.
Here is some insight into my current situation:
Since I have doubled my rates, only people who are truly passionate about the solution I provide reach out which is a good thing. One of the purposes of doubling my rates is to have more free time to work on music, other ideas, and spend time with my kids, which I am happy with. Since I have so many gigs booked for next year I do not have availability for the people that have been reaching out. This leads to my current good problem of sacrificing income from booking for the next few months in turn for a future pay raise.
As a potential solution to this cash flow issue and token of my thanks on Monday, I announced a Black Friday deal. Ex-CEO of whole foods John Mackey would call it a win-win-win. I announced an offer for a $400 gift card for only $40. Just in case $40 doesn't fit the way the economy is impacting you this season, I made some changes. I decided to switch the deal to $20 for a $200 virtual gift card. People who are interested are still able to buy and gift $400 for someone if you like. This is a great gift If you know someone that is getting married within the next couple of years and it helps connect your friends and family members with me while I am still available.
