Years ago the Christmas Ball was the first event ever held at the Ellisville Opera House and we are at it again tonight! If you aren't here with us tonight you are missing out!
Yesterday afternoon I had the privilege of escorting charter H.E.R.O. member Bonnie Powell on the “maiden voyage” of the Ellisville Opera House’s new lift! She hadn’t been able to go upstairs since 2015. It was also back then that Bonnie first had the dream of installing an elevator. Back then we all gasped at the thought of securing the funds necessary for such a big project…
… And keep in mind we had other project goals, too.
But we are part of an amazing community that invested in our dream, and as a result, the Opera House is now truly accessible to all!
To all the souls- those who are living and those who have passed that contributed resources and time, sweat and tears, desserts and pies, talents and labor, attended our theater productions and dances… and those who made financial contributions of any size… we are so proud of what you have achieved and on behalf of all H.E.R.O. members, we thank you so very much!
Thank you to all who came out the see the Rascals’ production of Willy Wonka Jr. this past weekend! We love our audiences!
This coming Saturday evening you’ll want to visit the Opera House again for the Hickery Ridge Concert Series presented by Regional Folk Artist, Chris Vallillo. We are so glad Chris has made our Opera House home for this monthly event. What a wonderful opportunity to see professional music acts right here in our own community!
This month, Chris welcomes singer/song writer Mark Dvorak, a guitarist and banjo picker, story teller and humorist for a delightful night of music and fun!
And did I mention there’ll be pie & coffee? 🥧☕️
Cabaret seating, an intimate night of great music and plenty of smiles you won’t want to miss! 7:00 p.m. at the Historic Ellisville Opera House Saturday, October 15th. $10 adults $5 students.
I’ve been so busy with multiple “irons in the fire” this fall, that I fear I haven’t promoted the Spoon River Rascals production of “Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory” as much as I should have, but let me just say, this is going to be ONE FUN SHOW! This 28 member cast is as hardworking, dedicated and talented as any junior age-level cast to grace our stage! Of course, it helps to have two additional directors (JoEllen JoEllen Pensinger & Kaity Spangler) who are dynamite! Not to mention, an incredible production crew: (Niki Howerter-set design, Karol Franke-costumes, and Mike Franke-sound and lights)!
We are so fortunate to have the Ellisville Opera House as a theatrical home for these youngsters, where they are developing their communication skills, while learning to work cooperatively with others, as they develop an appreciation for history and the arts!
And, to everyone who has generously supported our fundraising campaign and renovation project over the past 3 years- we can’t thank you enough for your contributions. When I witness the growth in these kids’ talents and responsibility, I find renewed hope in mankind (despite what I see on the evening news!)
In the words of Willy Wonka-
“Want to change the world?
There's nothing to it!
There is no life I know
to compare with pure imagination!”
So, whether you need to have your sense of wonder and imagination restored, or just want to reason to smile, get to the Historic Ellisville Opera House this weekend to see the Spoon River Rascals production of “WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY” Friday and Saturday, October 7th and 8th @7:00 pm, and Sunday, October 9th at 2:00 pm. $12 adults, $6 students, K-12. Doors open 45 prior to curtain rising!
Just a sampling of the spectacular entertainment we have in store for you this weekend!
Just a taste of what you missed this weekend if you missed us. If you joined us, hopefully this brings back some good memories!

Spoon River Rascal alum Philip Lopez performing at Millikin University and looking forward to a career as an opera singer... but he got his start as the cowardly lion on the stage of the Ellisville Opera House! We're proud of our Phil!
