Mykayla + Joey came all the way from California to celebrate with their whole family at the ever-stunning @jorgensenfarms Historic Barn venue. It was a chilly November day made warm by the love these two share, the beautifully close relationships they share with their families, and a blazing setting sun; and of course, aesthetically beautiful fire towers to keep our fingers warm and set the mood for the evening.

I heard something great during a photographers summit once that really stuck with me, and it’s this: “to be a storyteller, you must first be a story listener.”
2021 was my first full year adding video services under my team and learning those skills myself. I was totally getting into a rhythm with my film editing as 2021 moved right along with lots of romantic slow motion cut scenes, and reverent instrumentals. But, with each new couple I got to know, I had to learn to adjust to preferences. I had some edits and adjustments to make to films I had already completed to get it just right. I had to work out some kinks in the delivery system. And then, I had to listen. I learned I had to start asking more questions to get to know my couples stories and vibe before I even start shooting the day, and not just as I’m editing.
Brynn and Christian asked up front for a more upbeat pace throughout the entirety of their film, which I’ll admit was a bit of a challenge for me who had gotten used to a cookie cutout chronological story format. But, I loved how it turned out. And it got me stretching my imagination and looking to other videographers and films that inspire me instead falling into an editing rut.
So, if you’re booking me for your wedding film. Don’t be shy to let me know what fits you best. Go through my work, go through others. Tell me what you love and what you don’t think is totally “you.” Let me get to know your whole story well and who and what is the most important to highlight for you on your day. Let’s make it truly yours. 💕

People often ask me which I prefer to shoot more of, photos or films. I honestly don’t have an answer. There is so much value in both. But, I do have quite the soft spot for the way that film has this ability to really pull you back to that exact moment; the sense memory of the way the crisp autumn air smelled or the moment you glanced up into the sun shining through the trees surrounding the person you love with a halo of light. It’s all just…so magical to me. ✨

I had the chance to step out of my comfort zone and create something a touch more dramatic and cinematic with Madyson and Richard’s highlight and I freaking love how it turned out.
It never hurts to get some awesome drone footage of @madeirabeachfla and @thewestevents made for the perfect venue on this day. So happy with the welcome I received entering this second market and can’t wait to make my way back to the beach very soon.

What a year 2021 was.
Honestly, I’m still reeling from it, feeling overwhelmed by it, and haven’t processed much. 2021 kicked my butt in the best way possible. I had the busiest year of my career and I can’t say how grateful I am for it. It has me so looking forward to 2022 and all it will bring for me and the authentically in love couples I love to celebrate.
BUT…(yes, there’s a “but”), I let the year overwhelm me. I took on so many more weddings than I should have under the structure I had been operating my business; which essentially was *alone*…and without asking for help. I’m still getting caught up on the second half of the year and have been so grateful for the unending patience of everyone who have been waiting on films and galleries. Rushing is not something I’m willing to do with the memories of your day. So, thank you 🙏🏻.
I also felt like I sacrificed a lot of my personal time in 2021 wanting to do the best I could in my work…and there were days, weeks even at a time, where my mental health suffered and I missed out on important moments with my daughter, friends, and family. The thought even crossed my mind once or twice whether or not I should quit. And I’m glad I didn’t give in to those notions. Because what I do fills me with great passion and excitement; to be able to tell these stories and share in so much love.
All of that being said, 2022 will bring changes to the way I operate. I’ll be raising my prices, outsourcing a good share of my editing load so I can spend more time with my family, and taking on fewer clients to ensure each and every couple I take on gets the highest level of service from me and receives their memories back in a more timely fashion.
I am so looking forward to what this new year will bring. So excited to learn and grow and share in this journey with all of you. Here’s to year 7 on this wild ride that I live for. See y’all soon. ✌🏻
