Jessie's Facebook post reminded me of her and Meron's beautifully designed intimate wedding day at a Mt Hood cabin with just their parents and siblings. It was my first year of wedding photography and am forever grateful for the trust they put in me for documenting such an important day of their lives. Thank you, Jessie & Meron! Happy 7th anniversary to you guys!!! // Copy and paste this link to view their blog from way back when or simply click the link in my bio! https://www.alfredtang.com/blog/mt-hood-private-backyard-wedding

Happy 3-year anniversary to one of the most sweetest couple I had the privilege of photographing. While I'm certain they would have wanted a big wedding to celebrate with all of their friends, planning an intimate wedding with just their parents was absolutely perfect and would not of had it any other way.

Here are my favorite 10 photos from Casey & Will's intimate wedding on the beautiful Orcas island. In all honesty, I definitely have more than 10 favorite images. It's just that Instagram limits me to 10 and I don't shoot in all portrait/vertical mode to make a reel to dump all 90 that I love.

I probably.... no, wait - I'm certain I view my clients galleries a lot more often than they do. Even years after, I still open up older galleries to critique my work and relive some of the best moments I had the privilege of witnessing (and the truth is, I view the full gallery like 18 times between the time I've uploaded it and maybe a few months after I've delivered it.

The process of learning a couple's love story prior to a wedding day, and then getting to know each individual as I spend time documenting their getting ready moments has got me invested in their story and it helps me strive to better document their wedding day. Most times, I've learned some of the "bad and ugly" dynamics of family relationships with the bride or groom. While I understand there may be tension or disapproval, I can see the love and effort a family has brought forth to be there for their kin. No family is perfect (cuz heck, my sure ain't!).

The point is, I'm always wondering how my past couples are doing. Sometimes, after delivering a gallery, I don't hear a thing back - nor do I expect it. I just seen you've downloaded your photos and can only assume you like - if not love, them. I understand that if I were not to photograph your wedding, you probably would not have given me the time of day if we came across each other on the street or in a coffee shop. Just know, I am emotionally invested in your love story and wedding day as much as your proud parents or maid-of-honor. So much so, I think about each newlywed often and wonder how marriage is treating them and how many munchkins they've got running around now.

Anyhow, just some rambling thoughts I've had and not even sure if my point is coming across.

Here's a throwback to Kim & Kyle's Air BNB elopement in Central Oregon. As a "stranger" on their wedding day, I got to witness an intimate indigenous ritual and a little family tension. These intimate and vulnerable moments makes me privileged and honored to be a small part of your big day. No matter what, when family shows up to your wedding day, they love you. And I'll be there to encourage it all and document the moments you may never have again.

Happy Chinese/Lunar New Year to those who celebrate it! 🐉 // Love seeing two families of different ethnic backgrounds come together and celebrate a union of love. What's even more special, is the implementation of cultural traditions into their wedding ceremonie. Amanda & Nathan (with the help of her fabulous sister) planned a full weekend of wedding fun-tivities. The first day, Amanda and Nathan said their "I Do's" in her parent's backyard, followed by a delicious brunch with family at . To end the first day, Amanda & Nathan then rented out to celebrate with friends. BUT let's not forget the time they set aside for portraits prior to the evening. There were so many stunning portraits that it was hard to narrow them down to fit Instagrams limit of 10 images. I guess I'll have to save them for another time 🙌. For the second day, Amanda & Nathan hit it home with a Chinese Tea Ceremony at her parents house and rounded the evening with a fantastic banquet at . As I've mentioned in the past and will continue to reiterate in the future, getting to witness cultural traditions is always an unique experience full of rich and meaningful rituals. Thank you Amanda & Nathan (and to your families) for inviting me to be a small part of your big weekend!

“Brought together by the Grace of God” There are times when fate calls us. And some of the sweetest of times come to be when we answer. - // Who says you can't find true love while serving as a groomsman and as a bridesmaid at a mutual friend's wedding? Their friend's wedding may have brought Kayla & Hunter together, but it was their fate to be together was brought by their love for God first. As Hunter continued his studies at the Dallas Theological Seminary with a Master's Degree in Biblical Counseling, Kayla & Hunter would travel between LA and Dallas establishing their relationship and commitment to one another. One month after graduation, Hunter moved to LA to be with Kayla and shortly proposed to her as they celebrated their one year anniversary with a picnic date. These two sweet souls choose to fly me down to Southern California to document their beautiful day. While it was mid-90s on their wedding day - and the venue had lots of stairs and hills to navigate, I'd do it over and over again for them in the same conditions. To witness such celebration and union of love was a sight to behold. Thank you Kayla & Hunter for granting me such the privilege.

The Sliwoski's // Neamiah is a modern day renaissance man - one who doesn't have social media, enjoys reading deep thought books, discussing films and is a Foosball champion. He never was on the look for a partner, nor did he ever think that he was going to get married. But one day Laura came into his life. She not just balanced him out, but complements him well with her PhD in nutrition, gardening and cooking, along with her other arts n craft. One year later, they got married at . Just a simple ceremony, a lovely dinner with family & friends, some great toasts and dancing - all of the thrills with none of the frills. A great example that a wedding can be done completely at a restaurant. The bonus? Allowing your dogs to be part of the celebration! I couldn't be more honored to document Laura & Neamiah's beautiful wedding day.

A photograph leaves us with an image, and recording leaves us with a sound. But when it's feelings that we want to preserve, not photographs or audio, then they should not be recorded, but rather truly felt. What we truly feel will remain as memories even if we don't try to record them. - Unknown. //
At the end of the night, as guests are escorted out and lined up for the send off, Emily & Alfred shares a private last dance. I can only imagine the feelings they preserved during these moments.

Man, what an intense few days it's been! From Denver on Saturday to the hills of San Bernardino on Monday, I got to witness and document such true and authentic love made it all worth it. It's amazing how much I can learn about a couples love story in one afternoon and cry along with their guests during toasts in the evening. My heart is truly full from this weekend and can't wait to share their stories with you! But for now, I must fly back to Portland and begin my drive back to Norcal for Chloe & Katie's maternity session! They're expecting TWINS!!!!!!!

A newborn takes a moment to look up at his greatest teacher. // For Dr. Erikson, the best day of his life wasn't when he graduated from med school, but rather it's when his son was born. Being a parent gives us a deeper and fulfilling meaning to life. We see the world with new eyes through our children. We sacrifice our time, our emotions and our patience as we teach them how to navigate through this crazy world - and in a sense most times, we are the student. I'd imagine Dr. Erikson's greatest accomplishment is not when he received his MD, but his greatest accomplishment will be when his child strives to be the best human being possible while striving and achieving their goals in life. How it started (2019) vs how it's going (2023). Last week, I had the unbelievable experience of documenting Helena & Jaspers's new addition to their family. Absolutely honored to have the opportunity of capturing such special moments in their lives. First marrying their best friends and then bringing a new life into this crazy world. These two will be the best parents anyone could wish for! Peep the blog link in my bio or just copy and pasta: http://www.alfredtang.com/blog/portland-newborn-session-baby-andreas

What a devastating loss for my football team yesterday. To save you all the torturous sports ball talk, basically I was depressed all day yesterday. So today I had to get into a better head space and think about the things that makes me happy. Della & Reece gave me permission to do something I've never done before at a wedding - use a vintage manual focus lense for the most part of their wedding! Shooting with this lense forced me to be more intentional with my shots. It taught me that perfect wasn't everything (as you can see how inconsistent the lense is in different lighting) and that moments matter over getting that technically crisp and clean shot. It allowed me to shoot film - without shooting film. ☺️ The post processing was also another head banger for me (as I attempted to achieve consistent edits across the board), but in the end, I crawled out of the tunnel VERY HAPPY with the results along with the process of shooting their wedding. There's lot more to say and share from Della & Reece's beautiful wedding, so don't worry, more to come soon! Thank you Della & Reece for putting your trust in me and allowing me to have fun with shooting your wonderful day! 🤗🤗🤗

Because you speak to me in words, and I look at you with feelings. - Anna Karina // Moody vibes will always appeal to me. I resonate with it the most - as it evokes a deeper sense of depth and complexity in emotions. Being vulnerable and open with your partner in your insecurities is part of the trust and communication that you both build upon in your intimate relationship. It's a part of your love story that I love to tell. I thank my past (and future!) couples for allowing me to explore and capture these emotions and experiences. It truly fills a void in my heart and creativity. 🙏🙏

Speaking of hugs, John & Tess's hug was one of the first deep embraces where I could feel the intensity and passion behind it. There is no doubt that their love for each other runs deep. After their First Look, John & Tess read their personal vows to one another - it was absolutely beautiful and full of emotions. I can't wait to share more of their love story with you. For now, enjoy these images and one of the last image of the famous willow tree from under the St John's Bridge that caught on fire last year. 😭

My last wedding of 2022 ended perfectly. It encapsulated everything that the year was. Authentic, intimate love, celebrating a union of two wildly intellectual individuals. Tell me you've seen a better hug than the one Vaughn gives Anna during their First Look. Go ahead, I'll wait. But I won't be holding my breath. 😏

Finishing what I started back in September 😅 - Part Three of Alyssa & Alex's elopement in Portland! We were fortunate to have the iconic rose garden to ourselves while in full bloom. Alyssa & Alex got truly experience the "Just Married" moments in peace and intimacy. Then, back at their Air BnB, they shared their" First Dance" under the beautiful evening stars. Thank you, Alyssa & Alex for having me document three chapters of your love story! Congratulations on the beautiful boy!! Here's to many more grandchildren for your parents 😅 (Just kidding!!! The kids are for you!!!) 🥰

How it started vs how it's going. // I really dropped the ball with not coming up with the idea to duplicate Steph & Sean's wedding image. But I'm absolutely grateful to have had three opportunities to capture different chapters of their love story - from their connection session at the Painted Hills to their wedding at and then once more for their 1 year anniversary. Looking back at their wedding gallery, I'm disappointed that I haven't posted more of their wedding images here. I'm truly selfish and will change that for 2023!!!

09/12/2022

This year's weddings have been ones truly of intimate and authentic connections. Not just ones about being together for the sake of convenience - but rather, it's been ones in which every little action is enduring and lends itself to the building blocks of sweet nothings. Jessi has always had a crush on Kraig when they first met in college, but it wasn't until a couple years later when he began to notice her. Picking up their young city lives to move to a remote Alaskan island was a testament of their commitment to one another. Now, atop each Alaskan mountain they summit, Jessi & Kraig celebrates with a couple of Rainier cans as a nod to their humble beginnings and a celebration of their efforts to always conquer the world, one step at a time - most importantly, with each other. Their wedding day encompassed all of this with each detail holding a special place in their story and no talent left wasted. So with that, I'll leave you with their wedding photos to fill in the rest of your imagination. I can't wait to share more of Jessi & Kraig's wedding day with you all!

Hello? Is this thing still on?!? I hope so cuz it's been a crazy wedding season and I think I overbooked myself this year. I don't feel like I've been holding my end of the bargain on the experience I expect myself to deliver to my couples. It's not the final product that's the issue (those have and always will be of highest quality!) - it's the building a better relationship with my clients and all the preparation that comes before their wedding day. I feel like everything has been just me frantically emailing them a couple weeks prior, showing up to shoot the wedding, delivering the images and then p**f, I disappear. I've never wanted to be a Wal-Mart or McDonald's of wedding photography - I don't want my work to be high-output/cookie cutter photography, but rather an intimate work of art AND of experience. And part of this experience is posting to Instagram - no matter how much I despise this platform now. 😤 The stories I have the privilege to documenting deserves to be shared. So basically the TLDR is that I need to show up here more often - regardless of how long it takes for me to post. Even if it's a photo with a three worded caption. //
If none of this made sense, let me know in the comments and I'll do a reel with me lip-synching the caption while doing an awkward dance. 🥴

One way tickets to the Emerald City, please! //
Happy One Year Anniversary to these beautiful souls! Last year, we got these two Floridians married where Casey proposed to Carly a couple of year prior. After saying their "I do's" underneath St John's bridge, we hopped on a train to Seattle for a couple days of exploring. Just gonna speak this into existence, but eventually I'll blog their whole Pacific Northwest elopement 😅. Their love story is too sweet to not share with the world. 😍 Happy 1st of many many MANYYYYY Anniversaries, Casey & Carly!!!
