As a marginalized person, trying to bully yourself into taking up space through constant self-flagellation, self-criticism and telling yourself that you “need to be better…” or “failing” is just a recipe filled with the ingredients of supremacy culture.

It has taken me years to recognize this for myself; years of naming it with my BIPOC and q***r and disabled coaching clients and then finally recognizing the echoes in my own body.

Perpetual striving will lead you in a constant circle. Systems of oppression have taught us that if only we work hard enough, prove ourselves enough, we might earn our worth, earn the right to be treated with basic dignity. And even if we don’t intellectually endorse that crap, most of us have internalized this false promise.

So the irony is that even when we’re trying to resist supremacy culture, we still turn to its tools as we try to change ourselves.

Supremacy culture teaches us self-loathing, and so the only antidote is deepest self-love. You have to love who you are WHILE you change how you show up. When you do that, you’ll begin to *want* to show up differently because you believe that person is worthy of being seen, known, and taking up space. Innately.

Only then will you be able to recognize the times that showing up for yourself means going AGAINST social structures of merit and reward. Only then will you *fully* understand that you can’t tie your worth into a system that innately deems you unworthy.

The rebellion has to start in you.

Don’t forget that I have just *3 one-on-one coaching spots* remaining for next year! whole-person work or leadership focused. If you’re working on disrupting your internalized oppression and showing up as your full self, click the link in my bio and get in touch. I’m here for you.

May our search for self-liberation take each of us further down its path.

I love you all.

So, I did my first-ever free workshop for My People (the q***r community, BIPOC and/or folks with disabilities) today, and these two photos are really deeply meaningful to me.

The first image is my face BEFORE the workshop. I wanted to show up in this space focused on serving and not my nerves, so I listened to a song and thought about WHY this work is so important to me and I burst into tears. Because the notion of more marginalized people taking up unapologetic space, receiving permission towards self-liberation, and knowing that I can use the ways I think and coach to grant that to my siblings in this world…is just…immense. I found myself filled with love for my communities even thinking of the possibilities each person holds, and so I wept.

And the second image is a post-it E had left on my we**am, because the vast quantities of love I have to give the rest of the world comes in no small part from the kind of love I receive in my life from my partner. He has been the catalyst for my greatest healing and my greatest leaps of faith and courage. And our identities play a vital role in how we show up for each other and in the world.

25 precious humans joined me today. What joy. We are spectacular, loves.

May we learn to take up space for the sake of our truth and our truest selves, even in a world that demands our silence…and may we all find the accomplices that enable our courage on that journey.

(Don’t forget that I have 3 coaching spots left for 2023. Use the link in my bio to get in touch. I would love to be on your team.)

I love us.

When’s the last time you did whatever TF you wanted to do just because you felt like it and just for the sake of it?

NOT because you were:

- burned out
- about to be burned out
- giving yourself a reward for finishing work
- trying to create more energy for subsequent work

In other words, when was the last time you rested or played and it had ZERO relationship to work.

I suck at this, so it’s a constant work in progress. But coaching My People through an anti-oppression and anti-capitalism/workism lens means I’m trying more than ever to keep MYSELF continuously aligned with those values.

It’s HARD! We’ve been taught to associate work and ambition with worth. But uncoupling those things is just about the most liberating thing we can do. And we won’t truly be capable of disrupting internalized oppression or systemic oppression until we disrupt the hold that external production has over our sense of worth.

I’m continually learning how to rest as a form of liberation. You know the deal; I’m here when you need support in whatever YOU’RE trying to disrupt, question, change as you come into your identity. Use the links in my bio for all the stuff.

Also, if you’re really specifically committed to working on rest as liberation, y’all need to be following and .

JUST SAY NO TO NATIONAL GASLIGHTING. Here’s some annual validation for all my marginalized fam…

…Validating that this supposed “freedom holiday” celebrates an oppressive, genocidal nation, perpetuates mythical lies about the original abusers that stole and destroyed this land, and affirms abusers that continue to uphold oppression today.

Remember that in this context, any heroic storytelling, propaganda and abusers’ insistence that you must express gratitude, joy or celebration for the “freedoms” attained via the 4th of July is and has always been a form of gaslighting.

Also, to anyone that’s acknowledging this truth for the FIRST time because you’re *finally* feeling personally affected by recent court rulings, please be aware that it’s not the first time for the rest of us (so while it is a revelation to you to recognize that not all of us are free, this isn’t news to communities that have had to bear unequal treatment all along and continue to suffer through this horrendous, hypocritical holiday.) Welcome to reality; please have your personal revelation quietly.

This July 4th, as with every other - just say no to National Gaslighting.

Yo. Fellow forcibly marginalized folks.

We’re all reeling these days.

And you know what I’m about to do? Take the entire week off from social media and justice efforts and coaching and writing.

I’ll spend it celebrating my 10 year wedding anniversary with my honey, just as we planned, long before last week’s rulings. We’ll unplug and be fully present within ourselves: celebrating the joy of my brown, q***r, distractible, quirky self, and the joy of E’s trans, straight AF, tender, thoughtful self, and the EXPONENTIAL treasures that lie at the intersection of those things. We will celebrate our survival and our joy and take up celebratory space in a world that seeks to shame and suppress us.

We will do all that by simply being radically present with one another. By being fully alive together now, in this moment, no matter what. We stand steady and unwavering even as the ground cracks beneath our feet; as we always have.

You cannot take up space until you are fully present. You can’t respond to oppression until you’ve returned to presence. You can’t be honest with yourself about your capacity and your limits unless you are fully present. Our ability to be radically present with ourselves is both a prerequisite for resilience and an act of rebellion in a world that daily seeks to divest us from our truest selves.

So I’ll be off these platforms for the next week. You are also free to do the same, guilt-free. Breathe into your nervous system. Get present with yourself and then return to the work.

I love us.

Reminder: Shhhhh. If we’re not Black, yesterday and today are listening days, not opinion days. Amplify and magnify black voices, and witness and absorb varying black perspectives.

Something I’ve been working on learning - especially since J’s death - is how to be ok when not everything is ok. It’s so easy to get swept into the feeling that we’re not allowed to rest or go easy on ourselves when things are moderately turbulent or uncertain or stressful or we’re working on the endless task of healing old wounds.

We feed ourselves an idea that respite and will come “after” - after we heal, after the fog lifts, after a few years, after we attain this thing or that - when in truth, we’re meant to simply coexist with our choppy lives and make our peace right where we are.

Anyway. This was me forcing my butt to sit still at 4:30 PM yesterday, when my brain frantically wanted to DO a bunch of things. I’m biting my lower lip to stop myself from leaping up and following those impulses, but I’m also laughing at myself a little.

Learn to remind yourself that it’s ok to be disrupted, in the midst of stuff, and in process. Bite your lip and take deep breaths.

Also, GO TO THERAPY.

I love you all.

03/06/2022

Coaching is my calling, and the most JOYFUL work that I do.

What you see in my Instagram posts and reels isn’t coaching - it’s the PRODUCT of coaching. It’s me synthesizing my own experiences with the things I’m repeatedly seeing my clients grapple with - and then sharing that with you freely, because I want you to have it. Those of you who are working with me, and those of you who aren’t.

But unlike the things I share here, Coaching isn’t about me dictating answers or paths or offering my own particular wisdom or sense of identity to you - it’s me knowing that you actually HAVE ALL THOSE THINGS within you; I’m just here to help you *access it* - through inquiry, creativity, and exploration.

I tell my clients that coaching is ALLIANCE. For 6 or 12 months, you bring the messy, tangled, frustrating, ambivalent, stuck bits of yourself and your life (or yourself and your leadership roles) to our sessions and we get curious together. For those months, you know you don’t have to sift through it all alone. And *I* know that when I do my job right, you’ll discover clarity and calm right there, inside yourself. You’ll start to trust yourself deeply.

Any of this resonating? Just *TWO spots left* and I’m closing applications in exactly a week. After that, you can get on my 2023 waitlist. Use the links in my bio to explore more and apply. I can’t wait to hear from you!!

Stay true!
