Today in 1983, the 1st cell phone to be offered commercially went on sale to the public. The Motorola DynaTAC 8000x was the first handheld mobile device. Although it's prototype was announced in 1973 it took 10 years before it was actually available for purchase. Upon it's release it cost $3995 or close to $10,000 in todays dollars.
