Baraboo Elks # #688 Special Needs Prom - 2024
Questions and Answers for Parents and Guardians
THEME: Star Light, Star Bight!
DATE: March 2, 2024
TIME: 5:OO-9:00 PM
PLACE: Baraboo Civic Center Gym
124 2nd Street
Baraboo, WI
Please use the entrance to the venue on 1st street. There is a parking lot directly west of the building.
WHAT IS THE COST OF THE PROM FOR EACH GUEST?
There is no cost to our guests! Through a generous grant from the Elks National Foundation, as well as private donations, the Baraboo Elks #688 are able to sponsor this event FREE OF CHARGE!
WHAT IS INCLUDED FOR EACH GUEST AT THE PROM?
Every guest will receive a full meal, professional prom photo, a corsage or boutonniere, and a dance party that is just magical!
DO PARENTS/CAREGIVERS HAVE TO STAY FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT?
It is not necessary unless the guest needs assistance with
feeding, restroom needs, or requires one-on-one assistance for behavioral needs. Certainly, parents and caregivers are welcome throughout to take pictures, or kick up your heels and dance!
WILL THERE BE A PHOTOGRAPHER TAKING PROFESSIONAL SHOTS?
Yes, indeed! Shannon Watts Hill will be shooting candid shots of the event and Steph Shanks will take all of the professional pics. Every guest will get a professional photo as a keepsake to bring home from the prom.
CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE VENUE?
Sure! The Prom will be held at the Baraboo Civic Center gym this year, once again. There will be plenty of room to show off your best dance moves! The building is fully handicapped accessible. Please enter through the doors on 1st Street.
WILL THERE BE MUSIC?
Absolutely! Kevin Kellogg will, once again, be our D.J. Kevin fully understands the need to keep the music at a reasonable volume. The only thing blaring will be radiant smiles! If a guest has a strong sensitivity to even moderate volume, they are very welcome to bring sound reduction headphones. We also don't use any motion or strobe lighting.
CAN A GUEST BRING A FRIEND/DATE?
Certainly! But it is definitely not required. We will have volunteers from youth groups in Baraboo there to serve as "buddies" and they will gladly converse and dance with our guests!
IS FORMAL DRESS REQUIRED?
We invite our guests to dress like kings and queens, as that is just what they will be! Formal or Sunday best is great, but if there are guests who are more comfortable with casual attire because of tactile sensitivities, no problem!
WHAT FOOD AND BEVERAGES WILL BE SERVED?
The meal will include salad, chicken primavera with vegetables and pasta, homemade breadsticks, and decadent chocolate cupcakes for dessert. Lemonade or water will be the available beverage offered with dinner. If there are food allergies that we need to make exceptions for, please let us know when you make your reservation.
HOW WILL YOU HANDLE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS?
No one knows your child better than you do! If there are sensory issues and the guest would be comforted by a fidget or plush toy , bring it by all means. If a guest has a one-on-one aide assigned for behavioral needs, an aide needs to be present with that guest throughout the event. This is their night to shine and we will do our best to make every guest feel like a king or queen!
ARE PARENTS/CAREGIVERS ALLOWED TO REMAIN THROUGHOUT THE EVENT? Absolutely! We do ask that parents/guardians refrain from sitting with our guests through dinner unless the guest needs help with feeding. We plan our menu so that no cutting of food is necessary. H & S Financial has once again offered to supply an assortment of hors d'oeuvres, coffee, and cookies for parents and guardians. If you prefer to have a full dinner, you are welcome to go out to dinner in the area and return afterwards for the celebration if you so desire.
HOW CAN I MAKE RESERVATIONS:
Just email: [email protected]
List Prom Reservation in the title.
We need the guest's name, a contact email and phone number of a parent/caregiver in case of emergency. Also, let us know if they are bringing a guest/date. If you don't have access to email, you may call (608)393-8205. Please leave a voice mail and we will get back to you ASAP.
