💜💛💚Carnival Season starts with Twelfth Night (Kings Day) and ends with Mardi Gras Day. Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is the final day of Carnival Season. There is no season of Mardi Gras. Lundi Gras (Fat Monday) is the day before Mardi Gras. The colors Purple, Gold, Green were selected in 1872 for the first Rex parade in NOLA and historians say they go in that order of the flag. And, remember “1st Annual” is nonexistent, so please use Inaugural for first time events.

Scholarship fundraiser, social to recognize Greenwell’s work preserving local history

NONPROFITS & CHARITIES

D’IBERVILLE, Miss. — If you are related to a Beaugez, Boney, Ladner, Moran, Seymour, Fountain, Fayard, or any of the City of D'Iberville’s ‘Old Town’ names, tell your parents and grandparents about this community social and scholarship fundraiser.

Tickets are on sale for the D'Iberville Historical Society’s Dancing through the Decades.

The Aug. 7th event is honoring retired archaeologist and former newspaper columnist Dale Greenwell — affectionately known as “Mr. D’Iberville”.

Greenwell helped found the historical society in 2006 and served as its founding President.

He has worked to preserve D’Iberville’s ‘Old Town’ history prior to the city’s incorporation in 1988. One of those projects is ongoing and includes the creation and placement of eight historical markers south of Rodriguez Street.

The society decided to name its presidential scholarship fund to honor this 87-year-old veteran and local historian.

Greenwell is also known for his football days as quarterback of the d'Iberville High School Warriors.

And, his professional work as a graduate and alum of Southern Miss includes work on archaeological digs such as the Moran Site in the City of Biloxi and leading a team south of Gautier in Jackson County. Greenwell plans to showcase some of his most prized archeological finds as part of the social.

Participants are encouraged to dress for their favorite decade and dance the night away at D’Iberville Community Center on Lamey Bridge Rd.

All proceeds will go towards the society’s Dale Greenwell Memorial Scholarship Fund. The society plans to release scholarship applications for high school students in the D’Iberville-St. Martin area next spring.
