About 600 people gathered yesterday at ANHC for a Potlatch. It started from a Tsimshian Elder’s vision, Norma Jean Dunne, who believed a totem pole raised could bring the community together for healing in memory of Alaska Indigenous families whose children were tragically assimilated in boarding schools statewide. Mrs. Dunne shared her vision with President, ANHC, Emily Edenshaw, Yup’ik, who helped lead the massive mission. Haida carvers, brothers TJ and Joe Young of Hydaburg carved the beautiful totem.
