⭐️ Please help welcome Douglas Beecher to the Buchanan Hall Board of Directors ⭐️

Doug was born, raised, and schooled in New Jersey. After earning a Ph.D. in microbiology at Rutgers, he did research for 10 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He moved to Virginia in 2000 to join the Hazardous Materials Response Unit at the FBI Laboratory in Quantico.

Doug and his wife Mandana became part-time residents of the Village of Aldie in 2013 and moved there full time in 2022. Last year, they purchased the farm next to Buchanan Hall and named it Chevelo, a French portmanteau for horse and bicycle 🚲, to reflect their respective lifelong interests. Chevelo hosts well-known local eventing trainer Nikki Smith of Smith Equestrian, continuing the property’s long equestrian tradition.

Doug recently retired and is now spending his time learning how to fix things on the farm, tending his fruit orchard, and enjoying live music during the summer at the Buchanan Hall Market!

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, Buchanan Hall relies on the support and expertise of a volunteer board of directors, and we are thrilled to have Doug as a director!

Her hard work and dedication to the mission have been the life blood for our organization for the past five years! 🎉 Help us wish Sam Cockburn a very happy birthday!

Sam serves as a member of the Board of Directors at Buchanan Hall. With a focus on community service and equine sports, Sam is an active member of the Piedmont Fox Hounds, a National Steeple Chase Association member, and is on the board of the Virginia fall races.

Sam grew up in Unison, VA, and graduated from Loudoun Valley High School. He is now following a long line of family members deeply involved in the equestrian community, including grandfather Gordy Keys and father Bay Cockburn.

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, Buchanan Hall relies on the support and expertise of a volunteer board of directors, and we are thrilled to have Sam as a part of the team.

On this September 11, join us for Military & First Responder Appreciation Day at the Buchanan Hall Market to benefit and raise awareness for Boulder Crest Foundation and their work as a “nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on ensuring the military, veteran, and first responder communities can live great lives in the aftermath of trauma.

The need is great – traditional approaches to mental health are not working for these communities and a new and innovative approach is desperately required. In fact, an estimated 20 veterans die by su***de every day, and annually, more first responders die by su***de than in the line of duty.

Our mission is to facilitate Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) through transformative programs, world-class training and education initiatives, research, and advocacy.”

Please mark your calendars for July 28 to join us for a Fly Fishing Field Day followed by a screening of the 2024 International Fly Fishing Film Festival™. The Field Day activities include crafts, fly-casting lessons, fly-tying demos, and art vendors. Artist Ryan Smith (his painting is featured in this post) will be on campus selling his beautiful paintings and prints.

Ford’s Fish Shack food truck will be onsite for lunch. Following lunch, doors will open for the ticketed film festival. Evan is a Loudoun County native; he grew up south of Hamilton, VA, and graduated from Loudoun County High. Now, he is a proud and active member of the Middleburg Community.

When not working at the family business, Classic Motors & Machine - , you can find Evan racing in the with longtime friend Ken Walsh, volunteering at and chairing the Christmas Committee, or listening to live music with friends.
