All Score Urbana

All Score Urbana All Score Urbana is a community music composition program that engages with Champaign-Urbana’s residents in familiar public spaces.

Rather than treating composition as a solitary act, young and new composers are able to work collaboratively with performers from their community and explore creating their own connections and networks for future projects. It employs a workshop environment and emphasizes facilitating resources for community members, including access to the insights and on-site performance feedback from local perfo

rmers. It has offered free children-oriented and all ages events at Urbana Free Library, Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center, University of Illinois, and Urbana High School. All Score Urbana is free to the public thanks to an Urbana Arts and Culture Grant, and has received support from College Music Society’s CMS Seed Grant Award, an Urbana Arts and Culture in Schools Grant, Urbana High School Orchestras, Kickstarter Fundraising, and the University of Illinois 2017 Theodore Presser Graduate Music Award. Hi everyone, we'll have more details about free-to-the-public workshops that will be coming up but we wanted to preview something we've been looking forward to sharing at All Score Urbana workshop sessions for a while. Thanks to Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States's first-ever CREATE Grant, we were able to purchase a number of Travis Thatcher's photon tricorders to include in our Urbana Arts and Culture Program-funded workshops. They use light sensors and are delightfully uncontrollable in a way that should make for many kinds of experiments and experiences for Urbana residents. They will be available (9V batteries by the handful too) at our events going forward.

Hi everyone, there is a new All Score Urbana coming up soon called "All Score Urbana: Community of Song Project" funded by and thanks to Urbana Arts and Culture Program. We're doing a small fundraiser to add an extra layer of community and song to the free-to-the-public happenings alongside the workshops and people writing for the teaching artists.

In this case, we're looking to raise money for honorariums for eight guest artists to talk about their music and practices with us. All of these interviews/listening sessions would be free to the public and accessible via a Zoom link. Artists we are looking to have include NP0 x DJ DaiGroovie, PAUL KOTHEIMER, Anika Emily, and Key Perry.

Thank you Urbana Arts and Culture Program for tonight's sneak peak. We're proud to be recipients of funding for this summer's All Score Urbana: Community of Song Project!

This summer we'll be offering a free to the public series of virtual workshops and performance opportunities focused on songwriting and more. Songwriters, composers, poets, sound artists and more are all welcome!

We'll be announcing more about events and teaching artists in the coming weeks. In addition to the summer workshops, we're hoping to receive completed work (made with us, that we've helped facilitate or otherwise) that will be part of a Sounds Like Community concert in Winter 2021.

Hi everyone, here is a short update on All Score (with more news coming shortly). Right now we're collaborating with students from Urbana High School Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Wind Symphony. We're hoping (with composers' permission) to share some of their work in the coming months. We're trying to make what we're offering the students meaningful and musical without making more stress during these stressful and awkward times.

While this is a short post, it's important to mention that this program is possible because of support from Urbana Arts and Culture Program and College Music Society.

01/28/2021

Today's a fun day for All Score Urbana. We are beginning a collaboration with Urbana High School's orchestra and other large ensembles, thanks to support from the Urbana Arts and Culture Program's support. We're really looking forward to what the students will dream up!

It's also the anniversary of this recording from when we were teaming up with the library back in 2017. Thanks for reminding us PAUL KOTHEIMER!
