The Board of Directors of the Concert Association of Valparaiso is deeply saddened to have learned of the passing of long-time Board member, Tim Cole, September 22. According to his daughter, "He passed peacefully at home in a room overlooking his yard he tended to for so many years and busy bird feeders within his eyesight." Family is still working on arrangements with a celebration of life to be scheduled in the near future. Once arrangement’s are made, they will post an update on his personal page, and we will forward the information. Tim was not only very active with the Association, but also many other non-profits throughout the region. Please keep family and friends in thoughts and prayers.

Once again, we are glad to bring to the attention of our audience another exciting FREE concert opportunity in Valparaiso this evening. The German vocal ensemble Calmus is appearing at the Chapel of the Resurrection this evening.

One of the most successful vocal groups in Germany, Calmus is hailed by critics in the international press for its “perfect blend of sound, precision, lightness and wit,” and for “forging a refined sound, which few groups achieve.” Others cite their “wide range of sound, the joy in performing that the musicians convey on the concert platform, and their varied and imaginative programs.”

These five Leipzig musicians have won a string of international prizes and competitions, including the ECHO Klassik and Supersonic Award. Their reach is constantly expanding, as they’ve traveled throughout Europe as well as North and South America. With more than 10 recordings to its credit, Calmus received Germany’s 2009 Echo Klassik Award for “Liedgut,” a disc of treasured German folk songs. Other recordings range from the masterworks of Bach to lieder to Christmas carols.

If you’re local to Valparaiso, join us tonight at 7PM in the Chapel of the Resurrection for a concert featuring Calmus. This event is free and open to the public, we’d love to see you there!

No foolin' -- we pride ourselves on presenting quality entertainment to Valparaiso, as we have for eight decades. That said, let it be known that musicians DO have a sense of humor. Check out some of these pranks!
After reading, consider passing good humor along through the arts by making a donation to our association to help fund scholarships and programming, so we can keep the music going for another 80 years!

Here are some of the best classical music pranks ever to have been pulled - from violin smashes to choirs singing on helium.
