Dress Code for wedding and Sundance

♡Ladies- please wear an ankle-length dress or skirt. No shoulders showing, no legs, no cleavage
♡Gentlemen- long pants (jeans or dress pants) and a shirt with sleeves must be worn at all times.

Our wedding will take place at a Native American Sundance. It is one of the most important celebrations of the year. It is our new year's ceremony, it's a time that we all come together to pray and to sacrifice for our community. It lasts for a total of 8 days- 4 days of purification, 4 days of ceremony. We will be married on the last day of the Sundance under the Tree of Life. All invited will be welcome for the entire Sundance but not required to attend in its entirety.
That being said, there are rules to the Sundance that everyone must follow. Some of these rules are traditional. We practice these ceremonies as they were given to us by the White Buffalo Calf Woman. We just ask that all participating be respectful of our ceremony and understand that it may be our wedding, but this is our cheif's Sundance. His word is law.
There will be important people, mainly cheifs and elders of The American Indian Movement at this Sundance. There are rules associated with interactions with these people. We will post more on those protocols soon.
Some of our customs may seem strange, perhaps even off-putting. Please be respectful even if you don't agree.
