I’m still working on dahlias, it’s a process that feels like it takes forever! But the deer are SO happy. They love to eat all the foliage as I cut down before digging tubers. They strip off all the blooms and leaves but they leave the stalks.

I don’t know how FB does it but it pops up previous clients’ profiles as recommendations to add friends. One of my very first clients ordered the first cascading bouquet I ever did (outside of florist school). She now has a baby which just made my heart melt today. ❤️ I’ve been married thirty years and my marriage has been the best blessing in my life, getting to travel through life and share so many experiences and memories with my best friend. And I love seeing and working with couples as they start that journey and I hope beyond hope that they get to share in the same experience that has brought so much to my own life. Today I’m just feeling thankful, grateful and optimistic.

We had a fantastic day yesterday meeting some amazing brides, couples, besties and family at the Portland Wedding expo! We booked client zoom consultations in exchange for dahlia, chrysanthemum and garden rose bouquets until we ran out! I’ve got some busy weeks ahead but I’m so excited to really dig into details of everyone’s visions for next year! I love seeing color trends take shape so I can alter my grow plans to fit my clients needs for next season which is how I spend my winter. Bring on the consultations, I’m looking forward to connection!

I found a hummingbird nest on the ground this morning. It’s very cool, maybe the size of a golf ball.❤️

Winding down from a great weekend wedding in Astoria! Allen packed up our travel trailer while I worked on florals for this fun wedding for Mira and Gio at the Ruins at the Astor. The venue was really cool, as was the couple and their floral vision. Bonus, my peonies in the greenhouse were three weeks ahead of their regular bloom time and I got to add them! Beautiful ITOH. And the smell was divine. They were big as a baby’s head! Plus, we got to have a nice weekend on the coast before heading home. It was a great way to start the wedding season!

Spending the day at Mount Hood Event Center for the Hitched Up Bridal Show today! Such a beautiful venue and they’ve got coffee, catering and drink samples and they have llamas they’re walking around! It’s shaping up to be a fun and beautiful day, come on out and see me!

Second clutch of emu chicks is starting! This is the fun part, watching them pip, then hatch. They’re so sweet and stumbly at this stage but the species amazes me how quickly they go from this to running to full grown in a year. Their pace of growth is something to witness.

The daffodils are still coming on strong, more varieties keep budding, and I’ve still got a couple more weeks as some haven’t even set bud yet! I love the season extension I’m getting between all the different varieties!

Ok we’ve both got our rain gear on and are ready to go! Rains not stopping me but I sure did enjoy last week’s sunshine!

Greenhouse tulips are looking great, today I’ll be pulling around 1/3 of them from their growing crates to store in the cooler. I grow five different colors palettes of tulips, all doubles, peony types plus parrots for wedding work. Once they start to show color they get pulled, bulbs get rinsed, then they’re stored in the cooler. They will last me as my primary focal flowers until peony season. My first wedding of the season is coming up in three weeks at the Ruins in Astoria, a moody, romantic vibe with Cabernet colored florals plus lots of gold accents and flickering candles and I can’t wait to work with these blooms.

Spring perennials are starting to bloom…bright coral quince, currant, camellia, forsythia, hellebore…they’re all blowing my socks off just in time for the Hitched Up bridal show I’ll be attending on April 14. I’m gearing up to design a celebration of spring in bright fuchsia, hot pink, red and blush. It’s a free event for couples so come see me and all the bright abundance spring has to offer!
