Hey guys!!

After 4 long months of no competitions, GitChewSum took a very rare “short trip” to Riverview, FL this weekend to compete in the 3rd Annual QUE For A Curecontest, put on by Roni-Kay Elser Roni was able to draw in officially 45 Pro Teams & 19 Backyard Teams, but initially had closer to 80 teams combined. This doesn't just happen over night, "Great Job" Roni and and "Thank You" for doing what your do... =)

On a lower note, back on August 7th, we lost a great friend (Darron Rose) in a tragic boating accident and he went missing. Several of us searched relentlessly for 9 days, until he was found. On Aug 16th that mission was finally complete and we were able to bring Darron home to his family/friends for some much needed closure. My point in saying this is that I dedicated my cook to Darron and boy did he have my back! So if you happened to see me weeping or a tear in my eye, now you know why. He was great dude in too many ways to explain and loved by so many! RIP Darron!

A contest in the later part of August will present some of mother natures finest and she did not fail... It was hotter & humid as hell and of course it rained making for some very wet and muddy conditions. Oh yeah, we can't forget about the skeeters... Fortunately my thermocells were charged and the inside of my freezer truck (as a lot of people refer to it), maintained a nice and cozy 63 (except for during turn-ins) all weekend… =)

Tom Maticka & Sally made a surprise visit Saturday morning, which was very much appreciated! It was good to see you guys!

Once the smoke cleared, we managed a:
- 12th PublixChicken (won our table)
- 6th Prairie FreshRibs (2nd on our table)
- 3rd Prairie FreshPork (won our table)
- 2nd Snake River FarmsBrisket (won our table)

All off this was good enough for 1st Place Overall Grand Champion!!

Congratulations to Jim Elserwith Sweet Smoke Q on Reserve Grand Champion and everyone else who's name was called!

Whelp, the 1st Annual Miami: City of Miami Pit-Masters Competition & Festival is in the books. GitChewSum made the trip to a rare and much needed Florida BBQ Association contest in South Florida. Being right on the water the view was awesome!

Once the smoke cleared, we managed:
- 2nd Place Publix Chicken
- 4th Place Prairie Fresh Ribs
- 1st Place Prairie Fresh Pork
- 11th Place Snake River Farms Brisket (still scratching my head)
Overall 4th Place

Welp we kicked off the 2024 FBA season in a very chilly Apalachicola, FL this past weekend. Right out of the gate, double points and my first cook in a long time cooking solo, which only peaked my anxiety and made for a very interesting cook and was a very bumpy road… lol

Butts & Clucks Cook-off On The Bay in Apalachicola, Florida is one of my personal favorite contests (love me some oysters) and John Solomon and team do a great job every year! All you can eat oysters & low country boil… That’s whats-up! Thanks John & team!

This contest drew in 51 amazing pro teams from all over the Southeast Region, making it even more competitive than previous years and was the 2024 State Championship. It's great to see this contest continuing to grow, and even better getting to see additional teams from other areas joining in on the fun!

When the ice melted, I managed:
- 6th Place Publix Chicken
- 9th Prairie Fresh Ribs
- 7th Prairie Fresh Pork
- 8th Snake River Farms Brisket
Good enough for 3rd Overall out of 51 Great Teams!

The points difference between 2nd & 3rd was only 0.066 of a point, and the difference between 3rd & 4th was only 0.38 of a point. Super close, making it nerve wracking at the awards ceremony.

Congratulations to Uncle Kenny’s Take-Away on GC & Tillmans BBQ on RGC and all the teams who received calls!
