Hi friends! We are having a rough go at September. This is our second market we had to miss this month due to illness in the family. We have tended these flowers all season and harvested so many already but Hans and I are sick and can’t go. Unfortunately an owner has to be present at our market stand and that’s either Hans or I. Carol will be in our shop today and tomorrow I invite you to come check out our cute store. Fresh flowers, second hand, vintage, plants, and cute gifts are all stocked! 😘

Let’s talk about a la carte floral. We heard a lot of feedback today at market how we are no longer offering this wedding service. Ooof. I wish I could do it forever. I feel like I finally was in the swing of it with the chosen palettes and limited menu but I’m only one person. There were a million reasons we needed to change but the biggest is to avoid burnout. I needed to choose full service or a la carte, not both. Since it’s not guaranteed to have that many inquires a week to switch to an a la carte only model the choice was clear but not easy. A la carte weddings were 30% of our sales each season but as the only person in my company that does the quotes, the flower ordering, the emails, the admin….its a lot to have 80 couples to correspond with. I always find talented hands to help me design the flowers but never have I had anyone else leading the rest. If one day another designer wants to lead their own events at Sunborn that could change,but for now Im only taking full service events.
I am really excited to reduce the number of weddings I take next season in order to better serve my clients and my family. I am forever grateful to still have the privilege to make beautiful flowers for my career.💐🩷

You guys, these zinnia are incredible. To be fair Hans grows incredible zinnia…succession planting, white landscape cloth, starting indoors, wide spacing etc. We won’t have them in big numbers until late August market. For now they have just started and are saved for our wedding couples. I bought a large amount of seed but Hans was not willing to do such a large trial patch (understandable) so I was lucky to get 100 feet.

Phew! What a season so far! We have hustled hard and done so many beautiful flowers. It’s time for a break to rejuvenate those creative forces. Hans and I are taking a week with the kids and will be back in it July 15th. The shop will be open as my co designers work on small events but no promises on regular hours until we are back. Thanks for coming out to support us at market yesterday. Carol is always so happy to go and sell out…after all it was her that started sunborn with that very market 49 years ago. 🩷

Hey flower lovers! We are going to be needing our entire space next week so will be closed to the public. Thanks for understanding! We will be back open the following week except for the 6th of July. The majority of our crops don’t start till mid July and we will be at the market much more! 😘

Hey y’all, we won’t be at market till mid July which feels super crazy but this first half of the season is stacked with events. But good news is all our amazing flowers don’t really take off until then anyway.
Shops open weds-sat each week with Thurs/Friday deliveries available. 💛💛💛💛

New taper holders looking cute. This wedding had half their guest tables with lush centerpieces and half with the candle/bud vase combo. The room felt full of candles and flowers with this combo.

The shop will be closed Saturday as Carol is in the Netherlands for the tulip festival and I don’t want to miss the very first soccer game for my youngest as it’s the only one I’ll get to see. My mom is a saint helping each Saturday during the season so we can work.
Busy busy these days. Hans is busy pulling,washing and packing tulips for cooler storage as well as cutting and shipping dahlia tubers. I’ve been deep in wedding planning and small shop orders. We are working hard to get ahead of everything as planting season starts next week. There are no days off for Hans until July now. Winter gets us so used to weekends with our kids it’s always a tough transition. But as always the is the greatest and Hans will be there Saturday with our specialty tulips and dahlia tubers. Thank y’all so much for buying so many dried flowers! We have the smallest amount left and that feels so good as we needed the space!

February weather is bonkers. Yesterday we were talking about how it better get cold again or our tulips are in trouble, then we hid in the basement due to a tornado. Cool cool cool.
So what are we wearing to these end of days vibes? I’ve noticed y’all love our vintage and second hand curated selection in our shop more than our flowers. Yas sustainable fashion! I’m not mad. This is an example of what I do for fun (Pinterest collage for the win). So I’m taking the risk and we are going to continue to stock our store with more and more goodies.
Ive made a new insta page because I didn’t put a billion hours into weddings to make marketing confusing. I’m still very much doing weddings. I’m so grateful for what comes our way and I always throw my whole farm and entire being at my events….But I also want the shop to thrive so we are going for it. Verona hasn’t been allowed to grow for years then in came epic and it’s booming, but that doesn’t mean you just need chain restaurants and box stores only. I personally prefer the weird shops, the eclectic mixes. Have you been to or ?
Going from full time farmers to full time wedding florists was wild, and adding a shop was the infrastructure we needed but being open to the public was new and made me feel like an imposter. I’m confident at what I can do with events, my hands are skilled and fast from ten years of hustle, but a shop is a different beast.
Goals for our 2024
-continue to grow and design epic event flowers
- grow the plant selection in our shop bigger….we will never not be plant nerds
-grow the vintage and curated second hand selection in shop and bring it online
-grow our top quality organic CBD selection (stay tuned to what Hans has been working on)
-have some weekends off with the fam
