My daughter had a special formal winter dance this weekend. She asked me to make a boutonnière for her date.

I happened to have some ivory roses on my entrance table along with some eucalyptus. I still buy fresh flowers year round….I can’t imagine a month without flowers. They bring so much happiness.

I added some dried strawflower from my gardens and wrapped the stems together with twine.

It felt good to create a simple floral design for my daughter to gift her date. Pairing flowers together is a work of art. Each form takes on its own unique appeal.

This is strawflower. It holds up remarkably to cooler temperatures and lasts forever as a dried flower.

This bunch of strawflower marks my last farm chore of the season. I’ll hang these to dry and use them to create ornaments and wreaths.

One of my goals is to start growing more varieties of flowers to use for drying to create decorative pieces during the winter months. I’d love to have offerings year round.

Can you believe it’s November?

I’ve been a little busy with life lately. There’s a lot going on at the moment.

I finally got out to the dahlias to begin lifting the 2nd row of tubers and found a treasure at the top of the hill! Among the blackened stalks were several Labryinth blooms completely in tact! This is one of my favorite dahlias and feels like such a gift. I thought they were all gone until just now…

Today I finished tagging all 150 dahlia plants. Next week I’ll start to dig them up and divide. It’s a long process and will take me about 4 weeks to get done. You can wait to dig up your dahlias until the first hard frost that kills the flowers. Since I have many plants to dig up and tubers to divide, I start the process earlier.

I still have dahlias (I think…depending on tonight’s weather). Pictured is a sampling of what I brought inside this evening. This week is the last one to order dahlias for the year. Message me to get that last order in!

October is when all the dahlias are finally blooming.

Depending on the dahlia, they can take anywhere from 60-120 days to bloom after planting.

In our area, the next few weeks brings on all the blooms. It’s always exciting when the last of the dahlia buds finally open to reveal long awaited flowers.

This dahlia smells like chocolate! 🍫

This dahlia is known as Karma Chocolate. It is one of the only dahlias that has a scent.

Last year I tried to purchase this tuber and it repeatedly sold out every single time.

Miraculously it appeared as an extra free tuber in a huge order of tubers I purchased from a farm out west.

Last year Karma Chocolate produced barely any tubers. I replanted all of them in hopes of building my stock of this flower. These three blooms just opened last week.

Now I understand why these tubers are so rare and expensive to purchase. They don’t produce many tubers AND they smell like chocolate.

I’ll continue to work on building my stock so I can share. Even though they’re a challenging flower to grow, the chocolate scent and rich velvety petals make it worth it.

Today was the last day of dahlia subscriptions and the final week of subscriptions for the 2024 season.

This year I offered 10 weeks of floral subscriptions. There was 3 weeks of tulips in April/May, 3 weeks of roses in July, and 4 weeks of dahlias in September. I’ve enjoyed getting to know new people through this venture and appreciate all the kind words of encouragement and pictures of flowers in your home.

Thank you for giving me a chance and supporting my flower farm. It means the world to me!

If you weren’t able to get a subscription but would still like some flowers, there’s still time to order. I offer bouquets, arrangements, and pumpkins topped with florals. All options are available until the end of October.

Happy 1st day of Fall! 🍁 🍂

Now that fall is here, I’m gearing up to offer these pretty floral topped pumpkins.

This design features all of the seasons best florals from the farm arranged around the pumpkin stem. This makes for a great centerpiece or a nice gift. I know a few teachers received these as gifts last year!

This is a very technical design and takes some time to put together. I’ll need at least 2 days notice to have this ready for pickup.

The dahlias are pumping out blooms and today is week 3 of subscription pickup at ReFabulous Furnishings.

At dropoff today someone excitedly exclaimed, “Ohhhhh!! What is that flower? It’s soooo pretty!” I happily replied, “It’s celosia flamingo feather!” 🦩 🪶

I love it when people get excited about flowers. It’s FUN to share in the enthusiasm for all things flowers. 😄
