Good morning Folks!
Just a quick post to let you all know that the pecans and cashews are in! They are just $11.00 per pound and are this years crop - the pecans are halves and the cashews are lightly salted. Already tried some and they are delish!! Come get you some or call and we will hold for you to pick up. They go fast, so don't hesitate. Just in time for holiday baking and you will be supporting the Markland Baptist Church. WIN! WIN!!

The History of Sweetest Day…
In 1916, a promotion was launched by the National Confectioner’s Association declaring a Saturday in October as “Candy Day”.
This was short lived and cancelled by Herbert Hoover (then head of the US food administration) in 1917 due to efforts to conserve sugar during
WW1.
October 8, 1921, Herbert Birch Kingston and a committee in Cleveland, Ohio launched the first “Sweetest Day of the Year”. 10,000 boxes of candy were passed out to orphanages and charitable institutions.
While this didn’t start out as a romantic holiday and is not recognized outside of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
The origin is that of a random act of kindness and well worth continuing to let others know you care.
The words of Herbert B. Kingston…
“To bring a little happiness into the lives of orphans, shut ins and others who were often forgotten.”
