Good morning folks!

Just a little update on our activities here at the shop. We are moving forward and wanted to let you all know we will have all your favorite things ready for carry out next week for Valentine's Day. Fresh made Schneider chocolates will hit the shelves and ready made arrangements will be in the cooler each day. As always we will have the "kids candy" with plush and balloons for everyone! Also available for carry out will be our beautiful spring bulbs and bloomers and many other plants and dishgardens. Stop in for a visit and pick up something beautiful for your sweeties. And, Oh Yes - vased roses and wrapped bouquets to grab and go!!

An extra special treat for our customers - with your purchase say Hello and share your ID with Ryan Jessop the new State Farm agent in town and he will give you $5.00 off your purchase. That is a sweet treat for you!

We will be delivering Monday through Thursday next week, just not Friday and will be back to our regular delivery schedule on Monday, February 17th. Due to the transition of ownership it is very difficult to provide all services on this high volume day. We appreciate your patience as we make our changes.

Love and until..........

Well Folks, Facebook is asking what is on my mind today! I never want to be biased or controversial as I think problems should be solved with consideration, respect and looking at all aspects of a situation. But, yesterday I received a phone call from a furniture maker who thought he was speaking with Edelweiss Floral in Berne, Indiana. After reassuring him we were in Vevay he began to question our heritage - wanting to know - did we have store fronts that exhibited our Swiss connection and did we have a main street with little shops. I told him about the Swiss Wine Festival and he seemed perplexed we had a festival that represented our heritage once a year with nothing in between that promoted our community. After engaging in a long conversation that got me to thinking about a lot of things and quite frankly I think we can and should do better! So I googled Berne, Indiana and took a tour of their business store fronts and was so pleasantly surprised how our buildings could have these facades created on them to make them more welcoming. I know we need more shops and I struggled with retiring and leaving this building empty and am excited we will be keeping a much needed business here. So here is my challenge to all building owners in Vevay - please seek out any available grant money or programs that might be available to give them a face lift.
I was told that funding is out there but you need to source it. Make them inviting inside and out and then perhaps they will be attractive to new business to locate. We are slowly destroying ourselves with unnecessary banter on matters we disagree on and should be practicing and focusing on all the good things we could be doing - takes the same amount of energy folks! And again I am not being critical, but am just trying to pass on to our community a different view as to how others see us. Pretty lengthy post folks, but Facebook asked.

Edelweiss Floral Update - Good news folks!!
After I made my last post thinking the plans were in place for Edelweiss to close after 40 years an amazing thing happened!
I was contacted by a member of our local community who had an interest in continuing with a floral shop. Sooooo - here is where we are currently...... We are in transition and will attempt to keep you in the loop as to what is going on.

Officially, on the 31st I am retiring and certain aspects of the business will change and we ask for your patience and understanding as we work the "kinks" out Thus far it looks like this ~ I will stay on to mentor and work with the new operator for at least a year. Peggy will continue to work part time and work with the new owner on funerals and event work. Jenny is going to open
her own sewing and alteration business here in Vevay, but will offer her assistance to the new owner especially at Prom time. It takes a full year to grasp all aspects of the floral industry and I feel we have a good fit to go forward!

With that said and asking for your patience I ask you to work with us on changes for Valentine's Day, Friday February 14th. This year we will NOT be making deliveries. We will have all the things available to spread the love ready for carry out. There will be balloons, flowers, roses, plush, candy, bulb gardens, plants and much more for you to grab and go. We will open at 8 that morning and ready for you. We will NOT be answering the phone or taking internet orders - all services will be turned off that day.

For those of you with inquiries regarding prom - we will be available for tuxedo rentals and prom flowers as always. Do call ahead to make your appointment for choosing your tux and fitting time. Same would be appreciated for flowers! This gives us the proper amount of time to work with you for your needs.

We will always have beautiful arrangements for all your special needs - ordering early for best service is always appreciated. We try to have arrangements ready for pick up, but sometimes funeral and event work take precedence and we may fall short. That can be avoided if you preorder especially during this transition time!

More coming and will continue to update!
Until.........

Good morning Folks -
To say we are overwhelmed is such an understatement! Thank you for the many posts, emails, visits, calls and other acts of kindness shown to our recent post on closing the shop. Also, thank you to our unknown person who provided us with lunch last week - delicious and what a surprise! You ALL have made this transition easier than you know. We are taking such comfort in your understanding during this process. Again, we will be working and open every day up to and including the 31st of this month and there are still bargains to be had! See you!!
Until.........

Dear Friends of Edelweiss Floral ~

The old saying "All good things must come to an end" has played out in our service to the community. After 40 years of serving you, it is time to hang up our aprons, cutters and glue guns!

I am making this post to let everyone know we are closing the shop permanently effective January 31st. What a ride this has been and now I will look forward to playing in my own garden. We will continue to be open and take care of you until then at which time the doors will close.

It has been an honor and a joy to have had you in our lives where you became family to us and we will miss you greatly! BUT, it is WORK and this job requires a tremendous lot of energy to do it 6-7 days a week.

We are offering merchandise and fixtures at a deep discount - so if you are interested do stop by to see what we have that you might need! I will be posting some pics of our "steals and deals" later today.

The History of Sweetest Day…
In 1916, a promotion was launched by the National Confectioner’s Association declaring a Saturday in October as “Candy Day”.
This was short lived and cancelled by Herbert Hoover (then head of the US food administration) in 1917 due to efforts to conserve sugar during
WW1.
October 8, 1921, Herbert Birch Kingston and a committee in Cleveland, Ohio launched the first “Sweetest Day of the Year”. 10,000 boxes of candy were passed out to orphanages and charitable institutions.
While this didn’t start out as a romantic holiday and is not recognized outside of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
The origin is that of a random act of kindness and well worth continuing to let others know you care.
The words of Herbert B. Kingston…
“To bring a little happiness into the lives of orphans, shut ins and others who were often forgotten.”
