Just in case any of y’all are out there thinking that the City of Victor has cancelled Christmas. They have not done any such thing. Checkout this awesome explanation by Pam Walker on how the new and improved Holiday Celebration will be occurring. And might I add that they will need volunteers to help. So, let’s get out there and make this happen.
Hi one and all in Teton Valley,
I just want to clear up some confusion about the tree lighting celebration and related events, which we (The Victor Event Committee) have renamed The Holiday Festival of Lights. There was a thread posted yesterday on the other Community Page with incorrect information about the Christmas festivities in Victor and I want to make sure that everyone knows the facts.
It was correct in stating that the Victor parade has been cancelled.
For the past several years the participation in the Christmas Parade has continually dwindled practically to nothing. We had 6-7 floats each of the last two years and the parade lasted only 5 minutes. It takes the entire valley to make an event a success - from the planners - to the City Staff - to the public's participation in the event. For a multitude of reasons the number of floats in the parade has been significantly fewer and fewer.
An event like the parade causes the closing of highways and rerouting of traffic as well as the support of various law enforcement and emergency reponders. The behind the scenes effort to mobilize these resources and make these arrangements is significant. In light of this, the City decided to use the finite resources of the city's staff and volunteers for a larger event.
Therefore, Victor is replacing the 5 minute parade with a 5-6 hour series of events for one and all to enjoy all afternoon long - culminating with the tree lighting in the park and fireworks. The tree lighting event has become a treasured Victor tradition and will be bigger and better this year.
For this year's event, we are using E. Birch Street by turning it into a Christmas pedestrian festival with multiple events from 1-5 pm followed by the tree lighting and fireworks. A schedule of events will be published as all of the details are nailed down. This will include:
• The new Mistletoe Market: where the magic of the season will come alive with tents lining the street brimming with gifts and seasonal treats. (located on the south side of E. Birch Street by the park).
• The new Sugar Plum Lane: a stationary display of floats or decorated vehicles to spread cheer and give away candy or treats to a moving parade of children (located on the northside of E. Birch Street.)
• The Turkey Toss: a family favorite returns again this year.
• a new Snow Sculpting Demonstration (if weather permits)
• Santa’s Workshop which will be hosted by the Library
• Community Caroling led by Alan Wobbeking
• Tree Lighting
• Fireworks
As you can see, our 5 minute parade has grown into 5-6 hours of fun for all to enjoy. Please come out on Saturday Dec 7th from 1-6p in Victor City Park and along E. Birch Street.
The City of Victor and the Victor Event Committee would also love to have you volunteer and help us make it the best Holiday Happening ever!
