Brittney Valdez, one of Ballroom City's dedicated dancers and instructors, took ownership of the studio in February of 2021. Ballroom City had a 25-year history of providing the Chicagoland area a place to social dance, take dance lessons, and most importantly, make lifelong friendships. The many cherished memories made over that amazing 25-year history provides the foundation for Strut Dance Stud

io. While the studio's name has changed, the mission to provide the dance community with somewhere to call home remains. The multi-talented group of instructors at Strut will continue to share their passion for dance with students, building on the sense of community that came before it.

Huge congratulations to Peter and Yulia for hosting such a wonderful event! Chicago Harvest Moon 2024 was a success. 🤩

Two weeks ago the Brittney Bunch took on Chicagoland! We are incredibly proud of the effort put forth by every student. Their dedication, commitment, and love of dance were on full display and their hard work paid off. Congratulations to our dance family on a job well done🤩👏

Also, our very own Brittney did a wonderful job in her Cha Cha and East Coast Swing Pro Rhythm Exhibitions performed in the Saturday night show. Brittney was honored for the chance to perform in front of her students, family, and friends 💕

Sadly we were informed this week that Mary Thygesen, the owner and founder of Ballroom City (now Strut Dance Studio) passed away this past Sunday July 28 at the age of 91. Running Ballroom City was a labor of love for Mary and a hobby career that she took up in her retirement. She dedicated over 25 years to building a space for dancers to learn, connect, grow, and call home. She was a special lady who touched the lives of many. She will be missed dearly but remembered always 💕

The following is a link to her memorial visitation this Saturday August 3. We look forward to honoring her memory by gathering together and sharing stories of Mary’s impact on our lives. Please share this with friends who may have known Mary.
