Sometimes we get some flowers in that just aren’t up to our standards. That’s what happened with these Pink Floyd roses last week. They had some brown spots and discoloration, so I declared them “unusable!” and we did not send them out in any of our arrangements. We got credit from our supplier and kept the roses in the cooler just to see what they would do since they otherwise looked okay. Well, almost 2 weeks later—and a bit of floral design magic—they are looking fabulous. I think that goes to show the quality of the roses we send out! This week we were able to spend some time with Jackie Lacey, AIFD, who came in to teach us some tips and techniques! Wrapped bouquets are all the rage right now and they’re great for customers who have vases at home and don’t want to add another to their collection! But there IS a misconception about how easy it is for florists to “throw them together!” Wraps take just as much time as a vased arrangement to make, if not longer. There are lots of steps involved, including: - making sure each stem is completely stripped of all thorns, superfluous foliage and “nubs” - since your hands will be full, it’s important to have everything laid out and completely ready to put into the bouquet - binding the bouquet (sometimes multiple times) - having your water source ready to go when the bouquet is done being arranged (this could be Arrive Alive or soaked paper towels & plastic bag) - having your bouquet wrap and ribbon ready to go, to make sure your bouquet looks properly finished and ready to present to the customer This bouquet took me 35 minutes from start to finish - definitely not something that I threw together! I’m not at all trying to throw shade at customers - I know that you have no idea ho long it takes and what all is involved - I’m just trying to get educate you so you know that wrapped bouquets still take time and care, just like a vased arrangement! 😊 Call ahead for your wrapped bouquet - we’re happy to make one for you!
