Pack Extra Time For Airport Construction
We're continuing to build a bigger, better RDU experience. As construction continues, make sure you allow extra time before your scheduled departure, or if picking up family or friends from the airport.

I-40 Ramp Closure
The N.C. Department of Transportation crews recently closed the ramps from I-40 to Airport Blvd in both directions to improve the interchange. Commuters to RDU may follow detour signs and should anticipate these closures over the next several months.

More information about the construction project here.

Temporary Road and Upper-Level Closure at Terminal 2
RDU is temporarily closing the upper-level drop-off area at Terminal 2 at night for maintenance. The far-right lane of John Brantley Boulevard leading to the upper-level departures curb is closed daily from 9 p.m. – 4 a.m. All traffic for both arrivals and departures will be directed to the bottom level until 4 a.m.

Signs and message boards are placed along John Brantley Blvd between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to notify drivers about the lane closure. The pedestrian crosswalk located outside the upper level will remain open and clear of construction equipment for access to the parking deck.

The work is expected to be completed in November.

Runway Rehabilitation Continues
RDU’s runway 5L/23R, the primary commercial runway located on the west side of the airport adjacent to Terminal 2, will close for overnight rehabilitation Sunday through Thursday from Sept. 6 through Nov. 21. When the runway is closed, aircraft will land and depart on RDU’s parallel runway, 5R/23L, located on the east side of the airport adjacent to Terminal 1. The closures are weather dependent and the project schedule provides flexibility to allow runway work to occur on Fridays and Saturdays, as needed.

AROUND THE AIRPORT
See You At The SONC Plane Pull!
The 2022 Plane Pull® for Special Olympics North Carolina is almost here! One of RDU's most popular events will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the airport.

There's still time to get involved in the 2022 Plane Pull® for Special Olympics North Carolina.

Think you have what it takes?
Grab your team of five and see if you can pull an airplane 25 feet the fastest! Each five-person team must raise a minimum of $800 total by the event date.

Knowing Your Rights with the Air Carrier Access Act

Important Information for Travelers with Disabilities

Traveling for most people can be nerve-racking to say the least. But traveling with a disability can be far more overwhelming when it comes to boarding an aircraft. Did you know that there’s a Bill of Rights for air travelers with disabilities under the Air Carrier Access Act? Here is what the Bill of Rights consists of:

The Right to be Treated with Dignity and Respect: Disabled passengers cannot be discriminated by airline employees or contractors with a disability.

The Right to Receive Information About Services and Aircraft Capabilities and Limitations: Airlines are required to provide accessibility information about their aircraft to disabled travelers. This includes the availability of storage on the aircraft, the location of seats with movable aisle armrests, whether the aircraft has an accessible lavatory, and services that are not available on the flight.

The Right to Assistance at Airports: Airlines are mandated to provide disabled travelers with boarding and deplaning assistance as well as getting to and from the boarding gate. Passengers who request assistance in advance of arriving at the airport will need to contact airline personnel once they arrive at the airport to receive assistance.

The Right to Receive Information in an Accessible Format: Airline websites must be accessible and accommodations made in the airport for hearing and visually impaired travelers. Airlines must train personnel to recognize requests for communication accommodation. Personnel must be trained to use methods for communicating with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or communicating thought an interpreter.

The Right to Accessible Airport Facilities: - Airports and airplanes must be physically navigable for disabled travelers. Airlines with older aircraft with thirty or more seats that replace the aisle seats, must ensure half of the seats have removable armrests. The aircraft must have at least one accessible lavatory if the aircraft has more than on aisle. If the aircraft has an accessible lavatory, an on-board wheelchair must be available.

The Right to Travel with an Assistive Device or Service Animal: This includes medical devices and/or a personal amount of medication needed. Assistive devices must not count against the passenger’s carry-on limit. Airlines must accept a battery powered wheelchair. If it cannot be transported in the cabin, it must be transported in the cargo compartment consistent with safety and security requirements. Airlines must also provide for the checking and timely return of assistive devices at the gate for use in the terminal.
Airlines must permit a service dog to accompany a passenger with a disability in the cabin. A decision by airline personnel to refuse transportation of a service dog with the passenger must be based on an individualized and objective assessment of the dog. This includes: The dog posing a direct threat to the health or safety of others, the dog causing a significant disruption or misbehaves in the cabin or at an airport gate area.

The Right to Receive Seating Accommodations: Airlines must provide specific seats to disabled passengers who identify to airline personnel as needing the seat if the seat exists on the same class of service on the aircraft.
A movable aisle armrest that is readily available to the passenger who cannot transfer to a fixed aisle armrest.

Greater leg room when the passenger has a fused or immobilized leg.

Seating that best accommodates the passenger traveling with a service animal.

An adjoined seat for a companion providing assistance for the passenger. This includes a interpreter for a passenger who is deaf or hard of hearing, A reader for a passenger who is blind or with low vision.
The Right to Assistance on the Aircraft: Passengers with disabilities must be provided prompt and timely boarding and deplaning assistance, upon request, from properly trained airline personnel. Airlines must allow passengers with disabilities who self identifies as needing additional time or assistance to board, be seated, stow accessibility equipment before all other passengers. This also includes assistance with moving to and from seats. Airlines must also provide assistance to the passenger moving to and from the lavatory.

The Right to Accessible Aircraft Features: If the aircraft has more than one aisle, the aircraft must have one accessible lavatory. An on-board wheelchair must be available on the aircraft and priority stowage space for wheelchairs in the cabin for any aircraft with 100 or more seats and have movable aisle armrests on half of the aisle seats if the aircraft has thirty or more seats. Some airlines have been approved by the Department of Transportation (DOT) to meet the purpose of this requirement by alternative means providing the same or greater accessibility to passengers with disabilities.
The Right to Resolution of a Disability Related Issue: Passengers with disabilities may file a complaint with the airline or DOT if they are not satisfied with air travel services. Airlines must make available a Complaint Resolution Official (CRO) in a timely manner. The CRO should be a trained expert in resolving disability related issues and be able to resolve related issues on the spot.

Airlines must respond in writing to any disability related issues within we days of making such a report. Airlines are not required to address complaints sent more than 45 days after an alleged incident unless the complaint is referred to the airline by DOT who will investigate all disability related complaints to determine whether a violation has occurred.

Here at Kings Transportation Services we provide the most up-to-date information for all your traveling needs. We offer a variety of vehicles to fit your airport transportation needs. We look forward to serving you.

For more information on the Bill of Rights we encourage our travelers to visit the U.S. Department of Transportation HERE. We also recommend that if you have any questions about your right that you contact the airline CRO or the DOT Disability Hotline at 1-800-778-4838.

Hotel Booking Hacks for Travel Bookers

When it comes to booking a hotel for business travelers hotels, your job might not be an easy one if you are the booker. It’s not always easy to match all the preferences of each individual traveler that you might be responsible for. You might be asked to schedule a last-minute trip with very few rooms available when someone decides to attend a convention at the very last minute. When you have options, it’s a rewarding job to find quality accommodations that align with your company travel policy and your traveler’s requests and desires.

Here's a look at the Top 10 Things Corporate Travelers Desire for their on-the-road accommodations

Location is Key

Location is the top priority. Travel managers need to know the primary reason for a business trip to book the most convenient and intuitive hotel to meet the business travel needs. The proximity of the hotel is important to productivity. Most booking platforms allow you to search for hotels within a certain distance of specific cities, zip codes and even landmarks so finding a hotel that offers proximity is easy. Does your company allow travelers to book their own accommodations? If so, consider holding training sessions that share with travelers how they can use filters when booking hotels. Consider sending regular email updates that remind them how to find quality hotels close to where they want to be.

Personalized and Convenient Experiences

This is where technology really comes into play. Most business travelers want to stay at hotels where they can use an app to check in and check out — and hotels brands are responding to that desire. The major hotel brands now offer technology and automation that streamlines the guest experience from start to finish. These new technologies aren’t just appreciated, they are now expected by most business travelers. New technology and automation can help at booking, too. No matter who does the actual booking (a travel agent, a travel manager, or a team member) preset preferences tied to a loyalty account can ensure that travelers have the type of experience they want.

Free (and Fast) WiFi

Hotels that don’t provide free WiFi should never be considered for corporate travelers. Free WiFi is a must. The faster the WiFi, the better. Some hotel chains will offer a lower speed internet connection for free and a faster connection available for an upcharge or to guests with a certain status.

Power Outlets

Business travelers have so much to plug in and power up these days. They might roll into a hotel room needing outlets for a cell phone, a tablet, a computer and more. And when it comes time to press a shirt for the next day, there needs to be an outlet left over for the iron. Many hotels still offer too few power outlets. When possible, look for hotels that are newer or that have been recently renovated. New and updated hotels are more likely to offer the power outlets that business travelers love.

Meeting Rooms

Business travel is often essential to securing new clients, pitching ideas to existing clients and having important conversations that simply can’t be conducted over the phone. Business travelers prefer hotels that offer accessible conference rooms and private meeting spaces.

Conference rooms and meeting spaces give team members a chance to have dress rehearsals before making big pitches. Having the chance to run through a presentation or pitch beforehand can be the difference between winning or losing out on new business. You don’t want to hold these dress rehearsals and dry runs in a cramped hotel room. It’s always nice when a hotel offers AV equipment such as projectors and screens where guests can quickly and easily plug in their laptops.

Fast Services

Business travelers are often working on short timeframes, flying into a city one day and flying out the next. No matter what type of services a business traveler needs, they should be fast and effective. Room service should arrive within 30 minutes. Dry-cleaning and shoeshine services should be available overnight. There’s no time to waste when it comes to getting a meal or getting an outfit ready for the next day.

Healthy Hotel Dining Options

One of the greatest challenges with life on the road is staying healthy. Airports are packed with tempting fast-food options, and business dinners often include cocktails and red meat. Look for hotels that provide healthy dining options and preferably via room service. Most business travelers love to have a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner option to help balance out what they’re eating in airports and with clients or colleagues.

Workout Opportunities

It’s not enough to just have a fitness center. Business travelers want that fitness center to be spacious, easy to find and well maintained. It can be frustrating when a fitness center is so small that a guest must wait to use a certain machine. And it’s frustrating when a guest steps onto a treadmill only to find that the belt is too loose to use or that the built-in television shows static only. When a fitness center frustrates a guest, he or she is unlikely to use it at all.

A Setting That Promotes Productivity and Rest

There are one of two main goals when a business traveler is at his or her hotel. They either need to be: 1) getting things done, or 2) getting rest, so look for hotels that promote both. A productive hotel includes a business center where a guest can print documents or take care of other things — around the clock. A restful hotel is one that is quiet and comfortable. An individual traveler is going to be more comfortable in a king-size bed than a queen.

Relax and Unwind

The best hotels offer inviting public spaces where guests can enjoy a drink, enjoy live music, or watch the sunset. It would be nice to have some sort of common space where guests can spend time away from their rooms. Yes, rooms should be places of productivity and rest, but too much time spent in a hotel room can feel more like you’re hibernating in a cave.

We hope you found these hotel accommodation tips helpful. Now it’s time to put them into practice on your next business trip. Here at Kings Transportation Services, we wish you a comfortable and successful business trip and remember, we can provide service in any city in the world.

15 Practical Tips for Corporate Travelers

Traveling for business can be challenging, however, experienced travelers know they can have a much better experience when following certain rules that are guaranteed to work. We created a list of business travel tips and tricks that will help you navigate your next business trip like a pro!

1. Carry-On Bags Only

This is one of those packing tips that can easily help you save time. If you want to avoid losing an average 30 minutes at the baggage claim, or even having to go through the hassle of your suitcase being lost. Keep it simple, pack light, and stick to carry-on luggage only.

2. Keep Your Essentials Handy

Boarding passes, IDs, important documents, your phone, agenda, credit cards, wallet… Pack them together where you can easily find them when you need them. There’s nothing worse than not being able to find your ID when you get to the TSA checkpoint and delaying everyone else.

3. Charge Your Electronic Devices

Charge all your electronic devices before leaving your house, and even throughout the trip whenever possible. You never know when a delay, cancellation, or work-related issue might arise, and you need your devices to be powered up.

4. Fly Non-Stop

Whenever possible, choose non-stop flights and avoid layovers. You’ll spend less time traveling and you'll be able to arrive better rested. Plus, you’ll have better chances of avoiding delays, cancellations, overbookings, and lost baggage situations.

5. Suit Bags are Ideal

If you don’t have time or, you don’t know if you’ll be able to get your suit pressed before your business meetings, then bring it with you on the plane in a suit bag. Check your cabin allowance beforehand to make sure you can bring it onboard. Another popular option is wearing it during your flight to avoid getting too many wrinkles.

6. Bring a power bank

You never know when you might need it since it can sometimes be difficult to find an available outlet in an airport or on a plane. Invest in a quality power bank rather than those you receive free at trade shows. Plug in when you’re on the road for long periods of time.

7. Bring Travel Size Toiletries

You want to look your best at that important business meeting, but we all know those hair products from the hotel probably won’t cut it. Even if your hotel offers quality toiletries, there’s nothing like your own products, which are the best match for your needs—so bring them along in travel size bottles.

8. Check- In Beforehand

Whether it's for your flight or your hotel if advance check-in is offered, don't hesitate to do it. It will save you travel time! In many cases your room key is digital, and you can head straight you your room and use your cell phone to unlock the door.

9. Choose Water, Avoid Alcohol

Drinking enough water and staying hydrated is key to preventing jet lag. Staying hydrated is also good for cardiovascular health, your skin, and your overall mood.

10. Layover Tip: Time to Connect

If you have enough time during your layover, use it wisely to catch up on emails and calls. This way, you’ll be up to date on any important news and changes to your business trip. You'll also be able to avoid the stress of having to deal with an endless list of emails to answer when you finally arrive at your destination.

11. Adapt to Mealtimes ASAP

This is one of our key tips that makes a big difference when it comes to fighting jet lag. Try to adapt your mealtimes to local times at your destination as soon as possible, even before your flight. Adjusting your mealtimes will tell your body when it’s time to wake up and be active, or when to sleep.

12. Avoid Sleep Upon Your Arrival

After a long, exhausting trip you might be tempted to sleep as soon as you arrive, no matter what the local time is. Try to avoid doing this at all costs, and let your body adjust to the new time zone as soon as possible.

13. Store Your Receipts

Keep all your receipts together. If you need a paper version of your receipts, bring an envelope where you can store them. Every expense that is being paid for by your company needs to be documented. No receipts - no reimbursement is a standard rule for most corporate travel. We recommend you take a picture of every receipt as well in case you lose one.

14. Use a Firewall When Accessing Public Internet

This is especially important when you use your work computer and access work-related information on-the-go. Make sure your antivirus app is up to date and you have a firewall to protect you from anyone accessing your data.

15. Leave Reviews

Did you enjoy your stay at the hotel? Was your customer care agent nice to you? Be kind and leave a good review! You might be back at the same hotel next time, and it will give them something nice to remember you for. We love getting reviews from our customers as well.

We hope you found these travel hacks helpful! Now it’s time to put them into practice on your next business trip. Here at Kings Transportation Services we wish you a comfortable and successful business trip and remember, we can provide service in any city in the world KingsTransportation Services we wish you a comfortable and successful
