We are diving into the local flower farm movement to bring sustainable growing practices to the flow We can't wait to share our journey with you!

We are planning to join the local farmers markets where we will have a wide range of perennial and annual flowers available in every color of the rainbow. Come see our arranged bouquets, or buy them by the stem to create your own. Being we are "Flowers & More", we will also be hosting other great products at our stand including locally grown veggies, fresh mushrooms, and hand crafted wood decor.

Almost 10 months ago, I started about 25 seeds of eucalyptus as a trial for the farm. I ended up with only one plant by the time I was able able to get things in the ground. I decided it would be something I just grew for myself, so I potted it up and placed it in my little container veggie garden area, right out our door. I watched this lone survivor thrive all summer long. As the temperatures cooled, I snipped off all the foliage and brought the pot inside before the first hard freeze. Now, my initial plan was to have it be dormant over winter by keeping it in a cooler place of our home, but after a few weeks, I noticed it had some new growth. So now the little plant that could, is thriving in my living room, soaking up the rays, and will bring me joy during these long winter months 😍

I had some flowers still hanging in the drying tent from the end of the season that I had to get inside so I could decide what to bring to the Dried Flower Wreath Workshop this Sunday!

What outside tasks are you tackling with the warm-up this week?
For me, it's clearing out all the foliage in the OG flower bed on the property!
I'm hoping that getting it cleared out now allows me to move some of the plants out to the field in the spring as this bed is quite full and needs dividing desperately.

Normally, at this time on Saturday morning, I would be making a post reminding you all about the market.
But today is the first Saturday of no markets since July! Dan and I got to sleep in, and now we're just enjoying a peaceful morning in our pj's hanging out with the doggos.

The weather was so gorgeous yesterday, perfect day to dig up dahlias and plant tulips.
I first got all the dahlias out of the ground. Shook off as much dirt as I could, then removed the plant matter from any viable tubers. The tubers then went into my cart until I made my way through the whole section. After that, I put them on a rack to have any remaining dirt dry up. Today, I'll use an old paintbrush to remove any dirt remaining, then box up the tubers in wood shavings for the winter.
After I got the dahlias all situated, it was time to get all those tulips put in the ground. I shoveled out a trench (or shallow grave 😅), then lined my trench with the sheep skirt (dirty wool) I had been using to protect the dahlias. Sheep skirt takes about 2 years to decompose, so it's nice to have around to use in multiple ways for a couple of years. Over the winter, the tulips will be protected from any 4 legged creatures looking for a snack.
Now the wait for freshcut, locally grown blooms begins but until then we rest, recharge, and play with dried flowers 💐

The weather is about to flip, and I've got 1000 tulip bulbs to get into the ground today for next spring. I've got a few things to button up, but that should be a wrap on field work for 2023.

In a perfect flower farm world, as a sunflower succession fades, and a new succession takes off, the old bloom stalks would be cut down, and a cover crop would go in.
Well, this season was far from perfect, so here we are cutting down hundreds of stalks to bring over to our burn pile at the end of the season.
Now, after we finish up cutting down the sunflower stalks, all we left to do is dig up dahlias and plant next year's tulips, and that will be a wrap on 2023 field work! Wow, time flies!
