There’s a first for everything, and yesterday it was combining sunflowers 🌻

Thanks to our combine guy Nick for harvesting the first patch of sunflowers planted in May.

🌻These sunflower seeds are primarily used for their high oil content, but can also be used for bird seed.

🪶If you or someone you know are interested in bird seed, I will have some available this fall🍂

I’ve had some questions recently as to what my sunflower patch is all about. So I thought I’d share a little bit here.

My name is Kelcie and I love sunflowers so much that I wanted to share their joy with other people. I am the passion and vision behind the sunflowers and my boyfriend Josh is the logistics (none of this would be possible without him).

The Goal:
1. Have beautiful flowers for the community to enjoy by viewing, photography, and cut flowers
2. Be a part of and give back to the community.

2022:
The first year growing sunflowers, honestly, the patch did not turn out well. That allowed the opportunity for a lot of research and learning.
After a replant, I ended up with flowers that were good enough to cut and sell at Brookfield Pumpkins.
In thanks to God for providing when I thought there would be nothing I donated the proceeds to the Maryland food bank.

2023:
The first patch of sunflowers turned out tremendously! The second patch is growing right now at Brookfield Pumpkins.
This is your opportunity this fall to view and cut yourself Monocacy Manor Sunflowers 🌻

The Future:
I plan to continue to grow a sunflower patch for years to come, and add more opportunities for the community to enjoy it.

Lily and I went sunflower checking this evening 🌻 and we liked what we saw!

The size difference is from different plant dates.

These sunflowers are hardy and thriving on the small bits of rain we have received.

Still expecting blooms around the end of September/beginning of October.

Another sunflower patch to check for a great cause!

The sunflowers are looking perfect for the weekend!

We are off to a great start with our 🌻 fundraiser 🌻 for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital! Remember, 100% of donations go to this amazing cause. Cut flowers are $1 each and donations are expected from those simply in it for the 📷 op too.

If you can’t make it this weekend, there are more blooms on the way and we will continue to post regularly about them😊
