Status update: summer go time. Forever zero balance but leaning into the swings. Decided I’m 36 years old and just gonna wear shorts instead of debating if I can wear shorts. That’s showbiz baby. The kids want garden knick knacks and im kinda here for it. Speaking of the garden it’s happening & after 3 seasons off from growing im so excited to just have fun in there. (Yes remain calm a fence is coming 🦌 )

I also firmly believe in a good “redo” and the last garden I planted 2 days before my life kinda blew up for an entire year and I suddenly moved to Grand Rapids to spend a summer in an air conditioned hospital falling in love with nurses & giving speeches to teams of doctors that could get me elected as president & advocating for my baby & living in fight or flight for 84 days (spoiler alert the body really does keep the score 🫠)

Can’t believe we’re here now and that baby will be 2 so soon (more writing on that probably on in coming weeks) and we have a shop and you’re visiting it this summer and the fire pit is real and life is so good.

Forever rolling with the punches & leading a crew making so many beautiful things.
We’ll see you this summer yeah??

One minute you’re in Italy with an incredible group and in the blink of an eye just a Carhartt mom sipping her coffee at home before parent teacher conferences.

Reports of one super creative + artistic kid and one who always gets what she wants and can call BS as a 3 year old and I burst out laughing at a little table in the sunlight classroom. Apple doesn’t fall far…

Working with Matt full time is one of my biggest dreams realized. I will also never get over his love of doing deliveries. 😂

I’m losing sleep over the kids summer. The logistics. The schedule. Making sure it’s fun. Planning a craft cart. Beating myself up I dropped off the PERFECT cart at f goodwill in a rage purge 6 months ago. I annoy myself sometimes.

Design Intensive Weekend kicks off today. A team favorite. A fan favorite. Just the best. Here’s to the flowers and constantly learning and the amazing people who trust us with this adventure they are on.

Oh PS: the wine windows in Florence was one of my fav little touristy things I’ve done in a while. If you haven’t yet - add to your list.

Design myself my dream flower shop + studio but didn’t design myself an office and spend my entire day talking to everyone and having fun and making people treats and wake up at 2am with scaries about my list I’ll never finish. 😂

Low level kinda freaking out about summer childcare + need to sit down and make a schedule but would rather escape reality and watch chicken reels at night.

Record the podcast and realize it’s the longest most uninterrupted conversation Matt and I have each week and get weirdly sad afterward and mope off to bed.

Look at the spring schedule and can’t believe I get to do all this fun stuff for my job. It will be two things: a LOT + really fun.

So deep into chicken planning it’s laughable. 🐥 I’ve replaced my 2019 scroll of newborn content with calling farm stores asking if they have “Green Queens” or “Splash Marans” 🆘 send help?? But also let my live. And also wait until you see our coop!

Mothers Day product shoot ⬆️ and leaving today for 4 days to sit on a beach with my soul sisters and laugh so hard we cry.

10 months ago exactly we flipped the open sign on in our Walloon Lake flagship location...

I can't help but look at these photos I snapped yesterday and reflect on how far we've come in retail in less than a year. Opening a storefront is not for the faint of heart. It requires a tenacity, commitment & "creative pivot" mindset that can only be unlocked when you're IN IT.

From day 1 this has been a team effort. I remember our first few weeks open we all brought in houseplants from OUR HOMES and used them to make the shop feel fuller because we couldn't afford much inventory at the time. We would hide little brown stickers on the bottom of them that meant 'not for sale'. We had literally barely any products in stock. It was SO sweet and special and a bit scary ☺️

And here we are. During the slowest time of year for retail in our area, we skip into work daily to design beautiful things for our incredible customers. We would not be here without all of you!

We are so so grateful. Thanks for visiting this time of year & bringing smiles to our faces. Thank you for sitting down at the Terrarium Bar and sharing a quiet moment with someone you love designing something fun. Thanks for stopping in to say hi. Thank you for calling us when you think of sending flowers to someone you love. Thank you thank you.

Hi it’s us 👋🏼. We drove 30 min to dinner and the baby didn’t have shoes on. Thank goddess the van is a low key hoarders episode and I found an old pair of boots.

We are 15 min late to everything. Emotional. Asking for snacks 100% of every waking hour. We are overwhelmed and overjoyed. We are exhausted and sleeping soundly 12+ hrs a night. We are testing every boundary and putting more into practice daily.

We are climbing mulch piles for fun and eating sourdough for dinner and craving spring + summer.

We are loud. Omg so loud. Ear shrilling loud. We are a constantly running dishwasher and a laundry pile never caught up on and a bounce house in the basement and gonna need an upgraded bubble machine soon.

We are in head to toe always. We are “family kiss” and 5 dusty blonde heads smash together and it’s no wonder everyone’s nose runs from Oct - May. We are the Sheicks.

It’s hard to not look at these photos and think of how wild all this is...

I started this flower company with: zero experience, zero formal training, a full time job I had dreamt of, zero kids & absolutely zero business knowledge.

9 years later, we’ve got a full time team (including my husband!) we average around 100 events a year, we’ve opened our dream retail space, and teach thousands of people in person each year in our workshops.

The road here has been; winding, slow, filled with potholes & approximately 23,000 mistakes (and counting).

When I started, with zero money and zero idea what I was doing - I searched EVERYWHERE for some kind of business development course that I could afford. And I couldn’t find one. So I vowed that one day I’d create one.

Blooming Business is just that: a place for beginners. If you’ve got the business idea, or the logo, or a half done website, or social accounts just ‘hiding’ out there, if this idea is keeping you up at night, if you KNOW in your gut you should take a shot at this... this course is for you.

If you want to grow a life that works alongside your business. I’ve got a spot with your name on it.

A friendly reminder that ordering your Valentine's Flowers early is the best way to prepare for the holiday + support a local flower shop. We're one week out from the big day!

If you're ever ordering online for flower delivery you can do that right on our website and trust that your dollars are being spent at a locally owned shop. 1800-Flowers, "Ava's Flower Shop", FTD & many other online 'flower shops' that will deliver custom arrangements are often times order clearing houses.

What's an order clearing house?! Your order is received on their website and then sent to a call center. The call center employee spends their day calling local flower shops (like ours!) and asking us to fill + take the order.... we never take these orders & here's why:
💜 the 'payout' offered by these giant companies is a slap in the face + doesn't make it worth our time, they are offering literal pennies on the dollar compared to our profitability when you order directly through us
💜 customer expectations: very rarely can you meet a customers expectations. Client experience is our top priority - we want to make relationships with our customers, not just fill any order. Customer Service when you use a clearing house is lacking.
💜 this is essentially a method of stealing local flower shop business & then trying to sell it right back to us.

All things PINK as we head in Valentine Szn around here in the shop!

We are gearing up for a big few weeks at Sweetwater... workshops, our Galentine's Spritz and of course, the Super Bowl of flower holidays VALENTINE'S DAY. (we aren't quite yet ready to talk about the other... Super Bowl... 😭)

The Pink Corded Crew (pictured here) is back in stock both online and instore. The Terrarium Bar is open with gorgeous plants to choose from and a variety of vessels to design in starting as low as $5. It's been SO FUN to see you all come in this month and make a special terrarium!

We have limited spots still available in our Galentine's Centerpiece Workshop on 2/10, tickets are available on website! And we just opened up our Valentine's Couples Workshop on 2/16 (the PERFECT date night out activity!).

On the life side of things, we're returning home from a family trip to Florida over the last few weeks, while we loved the sunshine, we just can't beat the excitement of returning to our 'cutest flower shop in the world' and being back with the team.

People thought we were crazy when we said we wanted to try a retail business in Walloon Village that stayed open year round, and this winter is proving that creativity, collaboration + trying new things is sometimes the best way to keep things fresh & inviting. We are SO grateful to each of you who swing in to the shop, order your flowers from us, hire us for your weddings & attend our workshops + classes.

A ticket to a workshop might not seem like an earth shattering purchase, but it helps keep our dedicated team of Northern Michigan locals employed year round & creating a space where you are welcome to learn new things.

Grabbing a grocery store bouquet on 2/14 might be more convenient & affordable - but shopping local, especially this time of year- makes all the difference in our area.

Here's to February and all the flowery fun that awaits. We hope you'll stop in soon. We believe in what we are doing so fully - and we're grateful for all of you who do too. Flower on. 💜
