Join us at the Center for Community Arts as we celebrate our 60th anniversary of enriching the City of Walnut Creek with arts classes, workshops, and more! 🎉

6:00 PM - 6:15 PM: Check-In and 60th Anniversary Celebration: Kick off the evening with sweet treats and light refreshments as we celebrate 60 years of arts education in our community.

6:15 PM - 7:00 PM: Artist Talk by Mixed Media and Digital Artist Mel Mitchell-Jackson (DETAILS COMING SOON).

7:00 PM - 7:15 PM: Break for Refreshments and Networking: Continue to enjoy treats and refreshments while networking with fellow artists, educators, and community members.

We are excited to showcase an outstanding collection of original fine art prints created right here at Center for Community Arts Printmakers’ Open Studio and at the Boundary Oaks Golf Course Club House in Walnut Creek! This exhibition includes etchings, monotypes, monoprints, linocuts, polymer photogravure prints, wood cuts and collages, curated by Fumiyo Yoshikawa.

This exhibition showcases art work created by : Arline Reimann, Carol Brent Levin, Shari Arai DeBoer, Karen Baden Thapa, Moose Wessler, Marian Sims Harris (all members of the California Society of Printmakers), Camolin Akana-Becker, Dickson Keyser and Harry Liedstrand.

The Exhibition will begin on Monday July 17 - September 8. Come join us for the show, then treat yourself to lunch and a spectacular view at the Tap House Bar & Grill.

Take your skills to the next level with an exciting workshop for the advancing ceramicists. Hsin will share his precision techniques for enhancing wheel-thrown surfaces: chattering, sgraffito carving on the leather hard surface, creating crackle patterns with sodium silicate, and applying roller textures to thrown cylinders before “volumizing” Sign up using the link below and join us for this spectacular class!

Last Friday, June 7, Arts + Rec welcomed 100 participants to the third Pride 2024 event, the Family Pride Pool Party at Larkey Swim Center! Guests enjoyed early access to the pool and sprayground with a joyful side of free snow cones and colorful leis. The event highlighted the importance of family, acceptance, and recreation – making it a memorable day for everyone involved.⁠

Check out these spectacular Abstract Sand art pieces crafted by our teaching artist Marilyn Verducci! Take a look at these amazing art pieces created by Christine Lemor Aka Chlem! Born and raised in France, Chlem moved to the Bay Area in 1990. Chlem has established herself as a prolific artist with distinct style. She received her certificate in Botanical Illustration from Mary L Harden in 2018. She learned to observe and master the use of pencils, pen, ink and watercolor. Then, she went and studied Japanese Sumi-e painting and Kanji Calligraphy under the guidance of Master Fumiyo Yoshikawa, who also serves as the teacher of Japanese Sumi-e painting and calligraphy at the Walnut Creek Center for Community Arts. You can check out these art pieces at Boundary Oak Golf Course now until June!

Artist Connect is tailored artists, art educators, and those exploring a career in arts education. It’s a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between experience and aspiration, providing a space for fostering relationships, sharing insights, and nurturing creativity. Join us for an evening of light refreshments as we network and share ideas with fellow artists, educators, and members of the community in an open and casual setting.

Bring along a friend, colleague, or anyone keen on exploring the world of arts and arts education and immerse yourself in thought-provoking artist talks delivered by teaching artists Atiba Thomas and Elaine Ponce.

Atiba Thomas, a teaching artist specializing in artmaking for youth, will share her expertise in assemblage and mixed media. Join her as she discusses her artistic practice and guides us through her “Junk It Up” art lesson. Discover how to transform found objects and recycled materials into unique works of art, exploring the potential of mixed media as a catalyst for connection and community.

Elaine Ponce, a visual artist, and teaching artist, focuses on creating art that honors and celebrates our natural world. Through themes of ecology, folklore, and community, Elaine’s work aims to inspire appreciation for the wonders of the outdoors. Join the discussion on sustainable art practices and learn how to forge deeper connections with your work and the world around us through Elaine’s insights into art and teaching.
